Just hire Odom.

None of those other names get me or anyone else excited.

Barbers has had pretty good success, but he's 54 and plays a Big 12 style no running game, no defense. I don't think it would play well in the SEC. No thanks.

Rhule is having success this year. So far anyway. Didn't have any before, although I'd give him a pass for the rebuild. He's 40. I wouldn't hate this hire, but he's not a guy I'd pass over Odom for.

Barry Odom, Matt Campbell, and Matt Rhule would be my top 3 from that group.

Only name with a shot of keeping Kul is Odom. Don't waste our time with the others if this is the case. Recruiting is hanging by a thread

We should probably just go with Odom and get him some decent offensive coaches at this point.

I don't think this search is going like we think it is.

I trust Rhoades. It may be misplaced. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

If you want a minor bump in the road, it should be Odom. Odom would give the program instant stability and that's important with recruiting. He's not a threat to jump ship for greener pastures if given the HC job at Mizzou. He's also a good recruiter.

Matt Campbell would also be a solid get but you don't know who will be left as far as assistant coaches and coordinators. That might cause some short term stability issues with recruits. But he's a damn good coach. so there is that. I don't know how well he can recruit either, so that's an unknown.

Herman would also be a solid hire but not so solid if he has made it known his true destination is Texas.

I am ok with Odom as long as Coach Kul becomes DC and Henson is gone.

Bring in a young stud OC, like Tyson Helton from Western Kentucky

I do too until he gives me reason not to. I guess my point was, if it's going to be Odom, let's do it sooner rather than later. I wouldn't even mind there being a passing of the torch at a bowl game. Yes, I said bowl game.

Seriously, if it's Odom, get it done and get the recruiting on track. I don't think he's the big splash name that's going to all of a sudden stoke recruiting but it probably would hold this class together.

What might stoke recruiting is who he brings in as a new OC and the rest of the offensive staff.

I agree. No problems with him going after Herman, but if it's not going to happen then move on.

If this is really who is considering then announce Odom now.

I've been sold on him from the beginning anyway.

Fuentes likely already has another job. Not in the SEC.

Dark Horse candidate out of the ACC for us.

If the HC is Odom, expect major Asst turnover. Good names being floated for OC. Depends on some other openings who ends up here if we stick with homeboy. Can't say much more really at this point.

Email for the deets.

Are your sources saying if Kul is in or out?

If in, does he get bumped to DC?

A history lesson from an old geezer.

The "Bab Years". Bab was the Chancellor at good ol' Mizzou. Her goal was to build Mizzou into the Harvard of the Mid-West. The facility LOVED her, just the opposite of ex-chan Loftin. She hated sports but had to put-up with it. So, athletic budgets were cut to the bone. So, they let Powers go after '84 (7 seasons 46-33-3).

Then Mizzou hires their "golden alumni" Woody Widenhofer with FOUR Super Bowl rings as a NFL DC. He coached one of the best D's in NFL history, the Steel Curtain. This guy even has whole year's experience as a HC in the USFL. Big splashy PR campaign too. Played LB just like Odom so we're talking a True Son. He only managed a 12–33–1 record in four seasons at Missouri from 1985-1988.

Later Woody makes it to the SEC at Vandy as DC. Then internally promoted to HC. His first team (0-8) there led the SEC in total defense. (All D and no O...sound familiar?) In his second D-1 HC job, he was fired with a 15–40 record in five seasons. Last seen working in a toll booth.

Meanwhile, the Mizzou program remained total crap until Bab's was gone. Then Pinkel finally turned it around.

I say Mizzou should not hire any assistant coach, any. Letting DC Odom have the keys to the Mizzou program would be risky, maybe like hiring Woody once again. Good DC, but not ready for HC. Woody proved that at Vandy as well.
