We've had a series of big transfer portal losses along with freshman talent enter the portal and big name high school decommitments. I feel like drink needs a big score soon to turn the tide back the right direction. What are everyone else's thoughts?

If this were 10 years ago, that narrative would easily apply.
But what losses are other programs suffering compared to Mizzou? How much is NIL going to raise decommitments?

We are in unknown territory. Kinda like Lewis and Clark seeing a coyote for the first time.
We aren’t losing that many starters (obviously Lovett hurt). But we are picking up other teams starters from lesser leagues. Once the covid year eligibility passes by, things will start to chill. Add the NIL changes that happened at the same time and it’s been a wild couple of years.

That college football is on a death spiral between the transfer portal and NIL and I'm one of the few that believed athletes should get paid if their name/likeness is used.

We were over scholarship limit and needed to process some guys. We also need to bring in some OL help. So, it was inevitable for some to hit the portal. Most of them weren't starters. The RsFR Scott at DB is a curious transfer as he would likely get some reps this year and a good shot at starting next. But, I didn't see anything alarming otherwise.

My thoughts is everyone is assuming Drink gets fired after this year. I dont blame anyone for thinking that and would say they are probably in the 80-90% range of being correct.

But Damn, that means we start over again. And who do we target? Drink has to get 2 years to let the new OC get his system in place.

A new coach might not even need 2 years to get things headed in the right direction.

We started over after Odom and nothing has changed. Why fear starting over? Everything is a gamble and we aren't risking losing national championships here. We are risking losing being <.500 in SEC play. So if we make a change, we might still be <.500, oh no! Or we might get better.

Hopefully Drink finally gets it going this year and none of this discussion matters.

If he wins 7 games, he’ll be here for another year. Maybe even if he wins 6.

Did he know that this school isn't a powerhouse in football?
That is why he is slowly making changes and learning to be a HC and making decisions and hiring the right coaching staff. I personally think Drinkwitz is making progress. No way I see this as a question mark of the football program. He is doing the best he could to build it like what Gary Pinkel did. It takes time and he is doing much better than I thought with what he has been given and with his lack of experience as a HC. No way you fire him because he is getting this football program in the right direction. I know you want to hurry up but why not put more time and energy to support Drinkwitz and the football program? I have said it will take 4 to 5 years and maybe 6 years to get a really good record. Look what Odom got the team to when he was supposed to win 9 or 10 games, but he flopped because he wasn't a good HC. Drinkwitz isn't going anywhere, and he is making progress with what he has been offer so far. I said this year is his to lose everything. I do believe winning 8 games is the key to show recruits and making progress with the offense. This looks like a complete coaching staff that should kept together for another 2 years or so. OC was the biggest question mark to find and Drinkwitz nailed it. So give him 2 more years to make it great!

This holds absolutely no water. Odom was a first time head coach, too. Drink absolutely deserves no more leeway than Odom did. Odom deserved firing and if Drink can't exceed Odom in 4 years then he deserves being fired too.

I know I'm in the minority, but if we had 8 wins last year, we would be happy with Drink. So here's my question...

What could he done differently to win at Auburn. His kicker missed a 12 yard, GW, FG from the middle of the hashes and his RB simply dropped the damn ball without contact.

What could he done differently vs UK. The roughing call was questionable at best, and as I posted, there is a Bama highlight where they were not flagged for the exact same play and the rule explained to justify not flagging them. However we get flagged.

I know some will say it shouldn't come down to 1 play, but sometimes it does. These plays gave us 2 losses, even if 1 of these games goes our way we have 7 wins and everyone is happy.

And I'm not even including, we're 1 head scratching pick 6 away from beating Florida or the fact that Cody was 1 stride away from UGA playing for OT instead of the lead.

Just saying, IMHO, it's not as dire as the record dictates.

His teams have been terrible at the fundamentals. Step one would be fix that and stress that.

Odom went to being a good coach to being a head scratcher of a head coach. Many Mizzou fans warned Arkansas about Odom. It finally showed last season and he was finally getting out since it would have hurt the team from poor recruiting. He isn't a very good recruiter. Drinkwitz is miles better at recruiting. I really like the current DC and now the OC looks like a great hire. Odom was supposed to get the team to 8 wins in his last year as the HC and 10 wins the year before. he lost two games more what the experts were picking for him to lose. Drinkwitz beat the expert's expectation every year. This time I am hoping for 8 wins this time around. It is doable. Will it happen?

This link is from 247. Predictions-Projecting every SEC team final record for 2023 season.
Missouri Tigers

2023 schedule predictions (6-6, 3-5): South Dakota (Win), Middle Tennessee (Win), Kansas State (Loss), Memphis (Win), at Vanderbilt (Win), LSU (Loss), at Kentucky (Loss), South Carolina (Win), at Georgia (Loss), Tennessee (Win), Florida (Loss), at Arkansas (Loss)

The skinny: One of several SEC teams this fall we expect to be on the 5-7 or 6-6 line given the balance of power from the middle tier of the league to the bottom, the Tigers do not have the most favorable road leading into league competition. If Missouri goes 4-0 in the non-conference, Eli Drinkwitz's crew will get to bowl eligibility. There's always a path to eight wins if the Tigers can take out Florida and Arkansas over the final two games. Highly unlikely, though.

I'm guessing if we don't throw 4 fricking interceptions in a row we might beat k State.

Unlike our friend Lefty, I know no Mizzou fan who thinks we should give our coach 6 years to get a "good record."

While, like Bass, I think (sadly) that 6-6 will keep him for another year, I fail to see improvement that warrants keeping him if he doesn't win 7 or 8 games.

And as far as Cracks and flaws, I'm hoping the AD looks hard at coaches for softball, baseball, women's basketball, and our shameful T&F coach.

Is it too much to want excellence in at least one of those sports?

Pinkel succeeded because he made correct choices at quarterback recruiting and playing time.

Drink hasn't and it's what will ultimately undo him in the end.

Add to that the fact that he developed players well and his teams thrived on not making easy to correct mistakes. Current climate of portal and NIL makes player development a different world totally. Drinks teams repeatidly shoot themselves in the foot.
