Yeah I was running down 2019 total defense stats and UAB certainly jumped out.

Walters’ defense performed pretty well this year with the exception of Tennessee, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

And App States defensive numbers weren’t bad. I would be ok with him bringing his guy with him as long as we aren’t overpaying to overpay him.

What’s Buffalo’s secret?

What I hope it means is that Walters is being retained long enough to keep the recruiting class together and find another place to go Cover 0 and Cover 1 vs running QBs.

I’ve seen that he’s bringing his ST coach with him. Walters could stay as Safeties coach and spend the money on a bigger name to fill the DC role. Of course Walters could also follow BO again

ST stats are legit.
I believe he was at Louisiana before App state?

It might be a good move for Walters to not follow BO. He didn’t get as much credit for the defense because of Odom. Being a good DC on a staff without Odom will help him out in the long term.

From Football Scoop...

Missouri: Source tells FootballScoop Drink has offered to retain several of Barry Odom’s staff. We are told defensive line coach Brick Haley, safeties coach Ryan Walters and defensive backs coach David Gibbs are all expected to remain on staff at this time.

Buffalo had a senior laden defense this year. Their DC is Brian Borland. He as the DC at Baker University when I was in HS. He made several stops at our school during that time on recruiting trips.

All 3 of Haley, Gibs and Walters have been DC at some point. It’s a pretty good defensive staff to start out with, even if I doubt all will stay long term.

That's how I feel about the thought of retaining him on staff for more than the next 3 weeks.

One more from the "Take It For What It's Worth" pile...

I was listening to TJ Moe yesterday and he said the first thing Mizzou should consider doing is rehiring Strength & Conditioning coach, Pat Ivey.

He told a story about how he got injected into the protest: The players approached him with what they were thinking about doing and he advised them to go to Coach Pinkel. They did and when the aftermath of the whole fiasco played out he was essentially caught in the purge.

Moe noted his critical role in player developement, particualrly in both OL and DLines from 3* into multiple NFL draft picks.

He also thought Ivey would come back if asked.

I'm all for hearing what really happened and giving Ivey a chance but he sure did seem intricately involved with EVERYTHING that went on in that ordeal. Odom's firing of him after keeping him was also a bad look for Ivey.

I don’t think that story is the story the Administration has heard. Given that he was given an on-campus job by the faculty guy as a “diversity” official (said faculty guy who was a big CS1959 supporter), I can see why there’s some smoke there.

That wasn’t Odom’s choice. Odom wanted to keep Ivey.

Pretty sure that came from Mack Rhodes

Odom also wanted to continue as DC. Rhodes made him hire a DC. Wasted a year trying to put the Cross defense in.
