Right now I'm leaning towards Cook, but just barely.

Check what I edited on, he led the nation in competition % before transferring to State. That part actually has me excited, and its a low risk - high reward situation imo.

Whoever wins this job will be the guy who can distribute the ball to the playmakers the best (and that bodes well for Abraham), but we also know Drink wants a QB that will make the defense play honest and respect the QB's legs. The other 3 guys will have the edge in that category.

Right now Cook seems to be a guy who could do both, but if Macon improves his short-passing game, I can see him being the kind of playmaker that ultimately wins the job. Horn is the wildcard imo. We just don't know what he's capable of at this level yet.

When will Drinkwitz announce the starter for the first game?

"Over the last three years, he has appeared in ten games for the Bears." Appeared in 10 games over 3 years? What? Special teams? A series in garbage time? Sounds a little shaky.

Landry is a good player, he was playing out of position at Baylor he had to gain around 40 lbs to play NT. In 2021 he went from starter to backup when Baylor signed LSU 4* NT Siaki Ika from the portal. Baylor’s roster has Ika 6’4 350 lbs while Landry comes in at 6’1 285 lbs.

Landry was replaced by a really good player. Ika was Big 12 newcomer of the year and is a player that will probably get picked in the top 3 rounds of the draft.

Landry will come in with DL experience where he was playing NT. Playing as a undersized NT will help him when he moves over to a DT position.

This is a good pickup. Even if he doesn’t start he will get a lot of playing time. He is probably a better pickup than Jernigan.

From Baylor Nation

quote:

So yeah, Baylor added a tremendous interior nose tackle, something they didn’t have on the 2020 roster where that position was manned by a mix of Ryan Miller (6-2 290) and Josh Landry (6-1 285). This is no slight to either of those guys (Landry was actually Baylor’s best DL last year by a good margin, in my opinion), they just don’t have the frames you want for a nose tacke.

quote:

Because Baylor brings back basically everyone, the only real question is how do the DL slot into a TITE front with the addition of Ika? The toughest question for me is where Josh Landry will play, given that he’s sort of a tweener that isn’t an ideal fit as either a nose tackle or a 4i. My best guess is that he plays as a backup NT and Baylor doesn’t play him over the OC when he comes in.

Hopefully he's got a lot of grit and strength because being undersized against SEC interior o linemen would be a tough assignment.

JUCO DB Les Hewitt commits. 247 has him listed as '23, but Drink's bat signal pointed to a '22 commit. He held offers from Miss St and Iowa St

It’s hard to get a good read on a DB when he plays on one of the worst teams in the country. Holmes CC went 1-8. The only win was a forfeit.

The one close game they lost 24-15 was against Mississippi Delta. Mississippi Delta scored on a 51 yard pass and a 67 yard pass.

I hope he was the best player on a bad team. This kid is probably a PF and not on scholarship until he can prove himself.

Anyone know if OT Ma'Kyi Lee a JUCO transfer will play in the Fall? Looks like a good pick up.

WR Demariyous Houston reclassified for 2022. He's the transfer from Nebraska that we expected for 2023. 6 footer with explosive speed. Compared to DeDe Westbrook.

Who is transferring out, I feel like we are way over Scholly limit of 85 with all these late additions.

Ma’Kyl Lee played on a good offensive line in Coffeyville. Coffeyville’s All-American linemen Terrance McClaine signed with Memphis.

Mizzou was his only P5 offer. 247 has him ranked at 85 that leaves him as the highest ranked Offensive Linemen and tied for 3rd overall left from the JuCo ranks. Shemar Pearl is the highest ranked JuCo player left.

He is not the best player left, but it is a good sign this late in the signing period.

I thought after the semester was over a few players would leave because of academics, but really haven’t seen that yet.

Oregon DT Kristian Williams transfers to Mizzou. He was a high 3* recruit in 2019 and had 25 tackles in 24 games total at Oregon.

Trying to figure out if this is a good get or not. At the very least it adds depth, will be fit in the 2 deep?

He was a borderline 3/4* recruit out of high school. He was recruited to play DT on a 4-3 front. His freshman year Oregon switched to a 3-4. Then they switched to 3-4 4-3 hybrid. At Oregon he would probably be in 3 deep rotation.

quote:

He logged 385 snaps last year while earning a lackluster 55.7 defensive grade with a woeful 29 percent missed tackle rate according to PFF. He should find some interest in the transfer portal despite middling results thus far.

This late in the portal he is probably a walk-on. He probably should have gone the FBS route and try to work his way back to FCS.

FCS or DII was probably going to happen until he was thrown a bone by a Mizzou walk-on offer. 44% of players that enter the portal don’t get signed, so a FBS walk-on offer this late is a blessing for him.

quote:

In 2020, 49% of athletes (6,703) who entered the transfer portal enrolled at a new school, while 44% (6,009 athletes) are still exploring their options, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport, the NCAA data shows. The remainder of athletes withdrew from the transfer portal.
