If only as good as his namesake. Grown numb to another 2.5 to 3 star recruit. I WILL NEVER LOWER THE BAR down to being accepting and complacent of mediocrity. We CAN and should expect better than last or next to last in our home conference recruiting. Just saying.

Mizzou was far from the least talented team in the SEC last season, or really the season before.

Touche WU. Accepting your assertion as true, you still make my long-standing point that mediocre is readily acceptable to a large group of those who say they are rooting fans of our program.

While grown and matriculated in MO, perhaps there is a bit of the stereotype big market East coast "fandom" in me in that I want and expect "more". Regardless, I am a firm believer that until you expect, want and demand "more" you will rarely if ever obtain it or whatever your hopes may be.

I know my University is capable of reaching and sustaining a much higher level of athletic success. I expect it, I want it and will always demand it from the entity that so much of my life was and remains intertwined.

We all want more. 4 years ago Mizzou was as bad as any SEC team. The team has gotten better every year under BO.

Mizzou is a top 20 team by several polls and ranking metrics this year.

BO seems to be doing something right. Again, WAY too caught up in “stars”. This team was VERY EASILY in the top half of the SEC talent wise last year. I don’t give a damn if recruiting rankings said we “shouldn’t be”

Watch this upcoming draft and tell me we can’t recruit. It’s asinine

Jeremy was a 5.8 4 Star.

Jay is a 5.7 3 Star.

According to rivals. So if he got an extra 10th of a point by an arbitrary rating system you’d be happy?

Btw a kid in the last recruiting cycle made a fake twitter profile and just listed a bunch of offers and rivals made him a 3 star recruit lol. You’re stupid if you put stock in that stuff. It’s just there for $$$$$. No videos or anything. He just said Alabama offered him.

No system is perfect in life, but we will tell Clemson and Bama that star stuff is totally bogus. Oh wait....Bama and Clemson were in the national championship game. I like the addition of Jmac2 and don't have any complaints there, but would like to at least be ranked in the low twenties in the recruiting rankings yearly being that we are in the SEC.(That's reasonable)

This is the other problem people have...equating what Clemson and Bama do vs everyone else

And the bigger issue as always is caring more about “stars” than actual results. Rather be low 20s recruiting than a top 20 team on the actual field. I can’t wrap my head around being more satisfied by recruiting than wins.

Come on...

No system is perfect? Lol that’s what you say when rating a kid a 2 star and he ends up like weatherspoon. Rating a kid who doesn’t exist a 5.5 3 star because he tweeted out he got an Alabama offer? That undermines your entire credibility.

I don't normally agree with the poster(muinsandiegp) that started this debate, but I agree with him on this one subject. Wins play a major role in recruiting with maybe the exception of UCF.

Look at the top 9 teams of 2018 and tell me how well they did in recruiting.

Sure. But it wasn’t just an Alabama offer. The kids’ Twitter had multiple D1 offers. And that was just one recruiting site.

Just to clarify, when I refer to last or next to last in home conference recruiting, I am a realistic "fan". Not to compete with the " Tide" but rather that the Kentucky's, Mississippi's (both), Arkansas' etal should not dwarf our recruiting as they have. Sure you can refer to being "*" centric and while we have been fortunate to get some juice from 2*s, logic dictates that over a large sample size you will get more "juice" from higher evaluated talent potential 4*s or God forbid higher. Just tired of the rationalizing "identify/develop" self serving talk from those who it would appear think we can do no better.

You missed the point, again.

I know we can do better. I’ve seen it, and guess what...it sure as frick was not preceded by “stars”

If this team goes out and wins 10+ games (which it can), why would anyone give two shits how many “stars” our players had? It just makes no sense whatsoever. For some reason there is a contingent of fans that would legitimately prefer to finish in the top 10 in recruiting than in the final poll. It’s asinine.

Let me let you in on a little secret also, we have an infinitely better chance of finishing top 10 on the field. Shoot for that. Judge by tangible results, not mostly arbitrary bullshite.

My perspective is this: We are not Alabama. Only after decades of consistent top 10 finishes and multiple NCs could we be an Alabama. So the fact is, until that happens we will need to constantly try to get better because those man-childs ready to start as freshmen will not be coming to Mizzou. Bama can pick and choose, we cannot.

One or two good seasons doesn't make you a Bama. I think kU made that mistake of trying to compete recruiting with the big dogs after their one good season. Time, effort and results play in, and those you could have gotten while chasing those 5-stars.

It doesn't matter if you finish 2nd or last in recruiting someone, it's still a miss and wasted effort. So its very important to have spot-on evaluations that are better than the prognosticators that assign the Stars, and your time and effort is well spent.

We, unlike Bama, need to coach these kids up. Bama can just throw kids in the water and if they drown, and so what if they do, there's another one right behind them.

Nobody wants to see Mizzou sign a bunch of 4*s and end up playing like the Vols. I just want to see them take that next step and find a way to recruit better players and stop using the moniker "we do what we do"(under-the darn-radar-players) It's time for the fan base to demand they up their recruiting talent. It's time to at least be a year in and year out winning program and once in a while beat a true on-their-game blue blood.

It's about winning consistently. Look at the records for the Dan Devine coached Mizzou Tigers and how he only had 1 losing season in his Mizzou coaching career. He was Mizzou's best coach ever and the most consistent. We will never recruit like the Bamas and Ohio States, but we could recruit better.
