Damn this place is quieter that whore in church.

In an attempt to liven you sad sacks up we will begin.

Fritz seems to be healed up and ready to go for the opener, do you guys believe his accuracy has improved enough to actually challange a defence vertically or are we going to be forced to QB dive 15 times a game to move the ball.

Fritz is a warior and I love the kids guts but I am concerned about this and wonder if we dont see a bit more of Key as the season progresses.

Key was able to use the whole spring to practice while Fitz had to sit. Something tells me this is a bigger deal than we are giving it credit for.

Tbh, I think Fitz’s passing stats had more to do with our terrible WR play than his accuracy. He didn’t exactly have De’Runnya and Fred Ross. Will be interesting this year because that goes out the window.

Whether he can or can’t shouldn’t matter against 75% of the teams on our schedule. If we struggle to move the ball against Auburn I could see Thompson coming in and drastically changing the offensive approach, which I think would be hard for a defense to adjust to mid-game. Of course that assumes Fitzgerald won’t be improved in the long passing game. Hopefully he will be.

I actually fear he will regress from the injury. It's not like that wasn't a nasty injury.

I think Thompson will be the starting QB by the end of the season.

Forward to :45 second mark of this video. Fitz was healthy when he made this throw and its things like this that the folks saying 10-2, 11-1 seem to have forgotten. He made more than one throw like this... And against Bama he over corrected and threw a damn Hailmary into the stands... I get really nervous when I hear the talk of the new focus on the vertical passing game.

I think his accuracy is improved because our new coach wants him playing on Sunday more than being the next Tim Tebow. The poster who says a lot of our problems stemmed from WR play is dead on.

Let's look at play makers:
Off. Dear, Hill, Mitchell, Guidry, Todd and Couch have to be better, both are big bodied guys. I like Gibson out of the backfield catching. We know Aries will be our hard driving back and Kylin Hill will be stellar I believe in this offense. I can't remember a more talented offense. I am confident in Fitz and just as confident in Key.

To me the surprise player is going to be M. Murphy. You have to get him on the field and get him touches. If you live within a 100 miles of WP you know this kids name. He is electric and makes plays all over the field.

Who are you guys most excited to see?

Is he playing both ways? Bc his focus has been at CB - he even had a pick in the spring game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him on D most, start ST's, and then added for a wrinkle on O. He is awfully good not to get the ball in his hands. He had a pick and a dropped pick that might have gone for 6 in the Spring game.

I think with a new coach and staff you look at all the "play makers" on a level field not by age/year. That puts him on the field somewhere immediately in my opinion but we will see.

He can do it. Just need receivers who can get some separation and/or go get the ball.

I see this as a possibility too. Whichever QB shows the more proficient arm will get the bulk of the snaps. I think Fitz still sees the field a fair amount even if Key is that guy, though.

I’m excited to see what either of them can do with more competent WR play.

I just hope Moorhead doesn’t try to “square peg, round hole” the whole season if it becomes abundantly clear passing the ball isn’t gonna get to where we need it. Our rushing attack should be every bit as potent as last year (if not moreso), so it can carry us pretty far if we lean on it.

Inverse Tyler Russell perhaps? Mullen inherited a five star QB in Russell but couldn't fit him into his system. Moorhead wants to bring in a vertical passing game, but I don't see Fitzgerald ever being able to fit in that type of offense.

Much tougher in Moorhead's position in my opinion. You can make the transition from a prototype QB to a dual threat by using a young qb who fits the run system without putting pressure on them to throw the ball downfield. Like what Meyer/Mullen did with Leak/Tebow. Or, you can go wildcat with and bring in some elements.

Proving extremely difficult to go the other way with it though. Could Thompson be further along if Moorhead had gone with him? I would almost say certainly, but how does a new coach come in and bench the Sr. out the gate who is coming off a bad injury and is the emotional fan/player favorite, then gets voted captain?

I'd like to see us come out with both in the game early like we did Saturday, but instead of Thompson giving it to Fitzgerald let him throw the ball/run the offense in it. Use Fitz as on option on it but not as the primary. Give it a couple of series. If Thompson has success, go with him and don't look back.

I think it's unfair to ask Moorhead to come in and delay his transition to maximize what we have on the roster now. The reality is seeing how the SEC is shaping up we could have probably gotten 9 wins out of it. Big deal. If we are going to try to take the next step beyond where Mullen got us, either go all in or don't even bother.

I don't think the Moorhead QB is on this roster is the big issue. But he does need to work with what he's got this season. Yes Saturday was emotional but we've lost to two ranked teams. We're not scoring 6 points against Maine. It's Kentucky and Florida. I think we are fine long term. It's just an adjustment.
