UG is reaping the benefits of a great year in 2017. When they get beat in the playoffs the fever will break and things will get back to normal. UG will take a step back next season with the loss of all the upperclassmen who are the backbone of this years team so if we can have a better year and generate some excitement around the program UG won't be that big a problem. Let them enjoy their moment in the sun, it only comes around every 4 decades. Next year, take back the East. 21 of 28. Go Gators.

I don’t think we’re gonna slip back to 9-4 every year. We’re recruiting at a level that we have never seen for UGA and while talent alone isn’t enough we are collecting more high end players than the rest of the East combined. We do lose a ton and this year will be hard to replicate next year but I think 10-2 will be reasonable to expect and 2020 will be off to the races again.

Really, this year is key to watch how Kirby prepares and gameplans against the three potential teams he plays. A lot of Gators are hoping that Georgia isn't that good (myself included) but a lot of us have actually seen this movie before.
We know what that style of offense entails when it meets the spread.
In 2012, Will Muschamp led an upperclassmen led defense into the championship -- the only difference is that the East was actually good and Muschamp actually beat decent teams in that year.
He beat Texas A&M on the road (11 - 2), he beat LSU (10 - 3), he beat South Carolina (11 - 2), he beat Vanderbilt (9 - 4) and Florida State (11 - 2).
The East had 4 teams that were ranked including Florida and Georgia, and that finished ranked that year. The top 5 teams that Florida beat went 51 - 13.
Fastforward to 2017.
There is one team that's ranked in the East - Georgia.
The top teams that Georgia beat are: Auburn (10 - 3), Notre Dame (9 - 3), MSU (8 - 4), South Carolina (8 - 4) and Kentucky (7 - 5).
Muschamp rode a Meyer defense into the Sugar Bowl and got dominated after beating some of the hardest teams in the SEC.
We're not saying that Georgia's bad, but a lot of us are saying that this all feels really, really familiar. I saw what happened to Kirby when they went into Jordan-Hare, and maybe it was just a fluke.
But time will tell, and we'll see how the dominoes fall when you guys have to play two really good teams back to back and not skate through the worst East in quite a long time.

Too many props have been given to UG for the great season they had this year and what it means for the future. They had a great season with a lot of seasoned players at several positions. Next year they will take a step back, I don't even see them winning the East in 2018. UF will be better, UT will be better, USCe is improving as well as UK and Mizzouri, Vandy is vandy.
I do believe that this season and the recruits that have jumped on the UG bandwagon will help them to remain competitive for years to come but not to dominate.

Georgia has amazing recruiting and apparently a decent coach. The rest of the east is in shambles. Georgia is top dog now for at least the next couple of years. No one else is even close.

I'm not saying any differently. I'm saying that they haven't really played anyone worth their salt outside of Auburn and they needed a redo.
Who knows what would have happened if they had to play an East with three other ranked teams rather than an East with no ranked teams outside of Georgia.
Their only OOC game that was good got boat raced the other two times they played really good teams.
Alabama lost by less points and was actually in the game at Jordan-Hare.
A redo with Auburn's best player out of the game? That's just fortunate. An East that's in shambles? That's even more fortunate. A weak OOC schedule on top of your weak East schedule? Now we're cookin'.
However, there will not be a redo with Oklahoma, nor with Alabama/Clemson and it will be a telling story. Will it be Muschamp 2.0? Will it be Nick Saban 2.0? Who knows at this point, but I would like to see what they look like against legitimate top-tier talent.

Sure. Ok. I'm not declaring them the next Alabama dynasty. They are just worlds better than Florida, and every other team in the SEC east.
And I don't see that changing much for a couple of years, especially with the way they are recruiting.

I get what you’re saying. However there are some differences that play into our favor that Muschamp didn’t have.
1. We have a competent OC and will have him three years in a row.
2. We have Coach Pittman who is considered by many to be the best OL coach in the nation.
3. We are recruiting at a much higher rate than anyone in the East. We just signed more 5 Star playes than most conferences.
Yes we lose a ton of experience but we all expect a step back next year. And I don’t expect us to win the SEC every year but I think we’re going to be better than the 8-5 to 9-3 seasons we had under Richt.

Losing 8 starters on defense and two five star senior running backs probably won't have any drop off, right.
That he could lose with a team built like that is probably pretty telling.

ND destroyed a really good USC team.

Still gotta play the games.

Swift will ease the pain of losing Chubb and Michel. Losing Smith will be the hardest one to replace.

Although most of us fans see things either in red & black or orange & blue..I will try to give my honest take on 2018.
First of all the UGA defense will be hurt by graduation & a few juniors possibly leaving early. 10-2 might be too optimistic as we should all know defense wins hardware.
9-3 sounds right. But the one common factor we all face is the unknown...suspensions, injuries etc etc.
UF had basically an all underclassmen back seven in 2017 and except for Duke Dawson we had a lot of true frosh playing a lot of minutes in the secondary. I think Marco Wilson and CJ Henderson are going to be All SEC quality type corners soon...they just had to take their lumps in 2017. We have talent at LBer but not enough depth. Our DL kept us in many games. Our special teams coverage and return units sucked.
Our RB corp is damn good...but TEs and WRs were average at best. As soon as Franks was announced as the starter for our first game with Meatchicken I knew we were doomed.
Anyway...we lost little from our defense and the offense hopefully will improve...and I think it will. USCe is going to be an annual contender in the east (which will cause Straw to get hives). UT is doomed to perpetual hell in the east UK might never beat us til we have won 70 straight against them. Vandy will excel in the classroom and then have their lunch money stolen at recess. Mizzou just has hideous bee colors.

When I look at our schedule the four hardest games will be USC, LSU, UF, and AU. I don’t think it’s too optimistic to see a split with those four.
Edit: and one of the many benefits of this year was getting so many younger players valuable game time.

How exactly will you be better? You guys lose players as well. I wouldn't be so confident. Maybe you will be better maybe you wont. We still have talent and experience for next year. The O will certainly be better.

18 of our startes by FSU were Underclassmen (it might be more).
WR: 3 Sophomores, 1 Freshman.
RB: 1 Sophomore, 2 Freshmen.
TE: 1 Senior (not used very much(, 1 RS JR (coming back)
LT: Jr (Coming back)
LG: RS JR (Coming back)
C: RS Freshman.
RG: JR (Coming back)
RT: Sophomore
QB: Well, definitely ain't no one going to the NFL.
Safeties: 2 Sophomores, 2 Freshmen.
Corners: 1 Senior, 2 Freshmen, 1 Sophomore.
LBers: Sophomores or Freshmen.
DLine: All coming back except for Bryan.
Both senior safeties were injured and neither saw much time. Our Senior QB played one full game as a starter.
We're losing 1 ''contributor'' on offense and 2 on defense.

Man, you guys have no idea what it's like to lose an NFL back -- let alone two. This is when scheme is very important. You can see what happens when Auburn shut you down. Fromm drops to 45% accuracy and the game gets out of control quick.
Swift is good, but that you guys think he's going to replace not just one senior 5* running back but two? Those guys were NFL ready last year, and were running against much softer defenses than normal.
I also remember when I was told ''Guice will be just as good as Fournette''. It's impossible not to take a step back.

I don’t think Swift will replace them, I said he’s going to ease the loss. Although some analysts were saying he was playing better than the other two by the end of the season.
As far as UF goes, don’t underestimate how hard it will be to implement a totally new offense and defense this year. Year two will typically be there year that you see the biggest gains.

I think we will take a step back on D but not as big as some seem to suggest. O I see getting better. As in more balanced. We run 70% of the time. Fromm will be seasoned and o line will be pretty darn good. I think we will score more just because of how good I see our passing being. Swift is a heck of a RB and replacing Chubb and Michel is not easy. But we have good backs now not to mention #1 & #3 RB from this class. Only time will tell for sure though. Although if Justin Fields decides not to redshirt there are many who feel he is good enough to beat Fromm and Eason (if he doesn't transfer ) right out of high school. That would be another animal all on its own. I imagine Jones starts day 1 for you guys.

Oh, boy. It's the same narrative, man. Guice looked amazing running behind Fournette and looked mediocre after.
If you think Swift is going to replace both Michel and Chubb, you are in for a rough surprise next year.

Mullen is kind of famous for scheming around his players. Leak and Tebow were completely different QBs and we had the same result. Ironically, the moment he left we saw an immediate dropoff for offense.
I lost faith in Mullen lost Corral, but I have no doubt he can take the talent that we have in Florida and use it better.
