It's impossible to lock down Florida.

They're getting theirs. We have to get ours. Today was a good start.

I agree Kirby has the train rolling.

Just means Florida has to cement itself.

If we can lock down Lakeland, Orlando/Tampa, and Jacksonville then we are more than fine. We have a pretty good list of recruiters right now with Warren, Seider, Billy G, and Johnson.

Coaching and scheme will come into effect as well. Last I checked, that Bama 3-4 doesnt like facing Spread teams.

I hope they beat OU, but the threat of them being shredded is very real.

Personally, I think the 3 - 4 makes us a lot less predictable on defense regarding blitzes and coverages. Gives the DE a step, too. I also think our CBs are good enough to be left on islands, and we'll finally have some real goddamn safeties in 2018.

That is the secret key no one speaks of with 3-4.

Corners must be excellent or the scheme will fail.

Obviously. And I feel we have a good scheme coaching wise. We know what MUllen's offense looks like at UF. We have the QB to run it now in Jones(Mullen is such a good developer I have few doubts on the kid being pretty good). We have a deep arse RB core. WR"s we need more but Cleveland is still one of the better receivers in the SEC if a QB throws him the ball. Toney and Massey inside are as dangerous as any slot receiving combo for a four wide. And Van could be what we need since Hammond and Swain really haven't worked out opposite of Cleveland. I'm pretty excited to see this offense once it starts going.

His reluctance to blitz drove me insane. The thing I like though with the 3 - 4 is that you already have someone out of their stance, and you can also move your LBs all over the place. The shifting can really drive offenses crazy trying to keep track of everyone in front of them.

The only difference is, we probably have two All-American CBs playing the next two years, who knows what happens when Gardner moves back and we have some really solid safety recruits coming in.

The defense will be back very soon, and if Dan can do this in a month, imagine what he can do with an entire season to try and sell his team.

Can't wait to see the pickup on offense, too. If Dan Mullen can compete with Alabama at MSU, he can compete with Alabama at Florida.

Agreed. Need some more OL and defense needs some more talent at DT and CB. Otherwise 9-10 wins should be possible next year.

Honestly, and I know we're all on the retrospective 'frick McElwain train' (you were on it first), if we even had a half-way decent offense, we would have won 8 - 9 this year.

Michigan was a game that with a decent QB we would have been able to at least be competitive. We were winning at half.

LSU was a game we would have easily won with a real quarterback.

A&M, too. The defense was lights out.

UGA was understandable -- losing the best players on your defensive line (outside of Bryan), no backups at LB and both starting safeties even with a decent quarterback we might have lost by 2 or 3 touchdowns.

Mizzou we lost before the game even started, the team had totally given up at this point.

South Carolina was disgustingly winnable, again, if we had a QB.

Even FSU, if Franks doesn't flat out give them 24 points the score is 22 - 14. Think about that.

Really, Mullen is walking into an incredibly good position even if our season didn't reflect it. We were down 25 scholarship players and were really only out of two games.

All we need is a guy who can fricking coach a goddamn quarterback to protect the ball and move things along. I think we finally have the coach to do that.

The biggest addition we have made is Dan Mullen. One thing for sure, our Offense will NOT be in the 100's next season.

More talent, a better scheme and an easier division. Mullen will do just fine now that he has a QB he can work around.

A QB who fits the scheme to a T, deep backfield, we add another WR and shore up the OL and we'll make some noise

There are about 50 different ways to scheme your 3-4 defense around your personnel. It isn't reliant on your CBs unless you design it to be.

With Grantham, you know that you are going to get 2 great things.
1) you will be rock stars at OLB. You probably will have the conference leader in sacks. And you will continually be able to recruit the OLB at the highest level year in and year out.

2) you will fall in love with a hard hitting safety. The leading tackler on your team will be a safety and you won't mind. He will probably be the fan favorite on your defense.

I won't bore you on your board about the other side of the coin.

The only reason that I wanted to interject is because Grantham's 3-4 is different from Pruitt's 3-4 is different from Tucker's 3-4 (hell... our 3-4 scheme will possibly different next season as it has been intended to successfully highlight roquan smith this year).
