Let's just remember that Mullen was the third choice after we whiffed on Scott Frost and Chip Kelly, so who do we go after to replace Mullen if he leaves or is forced out, and why would they come to Florida over their current situation, and any other available opening?

Let's hear it.

1. Cristoball (priority is recruiting at this point, anyone saying otherwise doesn’t get it)
2. Lane
3. Aranda
4. Franklin
5. Tucker

Mullen is done dudes. That press conference this morning was absolutely pathetic.

You want to become Tennessee under Butch Jones? Then keep Mullen and see what happens.

Yes it was. The answer to the recruiting question was pathetic. Getting weird Mcelwain vibes from him.

1. Cristoball (priority is recruiting at this point, anyone saying otherwise doesn’t get it)

You think a Miami grad is going to leave his gig in Oregon and come to the SEC and Florida no less? Let me remind you that he didn't do shite at FIU in 6 years he had 2 winning seasons. Also it is super easy to win at Oregon, just look at Willie Tagart.

quote:

2. Lane

5-15 LA Raiders
7-6 Tennessee
28-15 USC
26-13 FAU
11-7 Ole Miss

Where has Lane Been successful?

quote:

. Aranda

The guy LSU fired because he couldn't get their defense straightened out? And you think he can recruit in Florida?

quote:

4. Franklin

I know he did well at Vandy, but Florida, Georgia and Tennessee were all down those two years. He has only had 3 good years out of 8 and he was 4-5 last year and he is 5-3 this year.

quote:

5. Tucker

5-7 in his one season at Colorado and 2-6 in the PAC 12. He went 2-5 last season, so you are going to hire a guy who has one good season out of 3 as a head coach?

My point is this, we are not going to improve with any of these hires imo. I personally would not be enamored with any of these hires. But what the heck do I know.

And you think we’re better off staying with Mullen?

Neither is a good choice.

Well Mullen has taken us to 3 NY6 Bowls in a row. No small feat. We are having a bad year this year, so if you are going to have this level that Mullen needs to measure up to, no one else is going to measure up either. You don't fire a coach after one bad year unless they do something monumentally stupid like Mac did. The fact that Mullen has an aloof personality is the most ridiculous reason to fire someone. You guys are letting everyone else on the rant get to you and you need to quit listening to them. They are idiots just like us.

Mullen may need to get fired, but we are no where near that point yet and if Florida fans force Stricklin's hand and he gives in to the online idiots, I think we are going to feel like Tennessee fans after the Pruitt debacle.

But maybe I am wrong and we should just have the attitude that either we make the playoffs within 4 years of hiring a coach or let him go. But there is a lot of luck involved. Just look at Bill Belichick who was fired in Cleveland after he turned them around in his 4th year and had a bad 5th year and was let go.

I think we can win with Mullen, but we can't just go scorched earth because our rival is having a great year.

They beat our arse, but so fricking what, we beat their arse last year and we are going to beat their arse next year.

Mullen signed an extension 8 months ago he is not going anywhere. No matter how much you gripe and moan.

Let see what he does after the season with his staff and go from there.

Because changes need to be made with at least 4 coaches hopefully more.

But recruiting is not as important to Mullen because I truly believe he worries more about who is in the portal and puts more priority into that then high school.

Which if true. I think is not a good way to run your program but its his program to run so lets see where he takes us these last 4 games and then we will have a better idea when signing day comes in December

Hugh Freeze. It’s time. With the NIL, he will have a field day shoveling money to recruits, but this time he won’t be caught.

yeah, imagine that. giving a guy a raise, less than a year, fire his arse.

i for one will be disappointed if we lose him. imagine turning over a new coach that has been essentially an upgrade over mcelwain. mcelwain's teams never looked good even though we won the east twice. and that was because richt was the coach of georgia one year and kirby was getting used to being a HC the next.

despite 2021 and parts of 2020, it's been an upgrade. not much, but you can't just shrug off 2 NY6 bowl wins out of 3 appearances and an SEC championship appearance. this year was bound to be a drop compared to last year offensive wise. not sure why we expected more out of this team given what we lost.

i'm willing to let mullen let his buddy live out his contract as DC and option out of renewing it. it's better than "firing" him in my opinion in terms of being loyal to a friend. but he's got to get a better recruiter and he personally has to recruit better himself. the only thing is, what can we offer recruits that they can't get elsewhere at places like Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, OSU, etc.?

I think a lot of people are kinda blowing this season way out of proportion. This was always going to be a rebuilding year. Sometimes there’s going to be down year for coaches, especially when you’re replacing a quarterback like Trask, and 1st round weapons in Pitts and Toney. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pissed with how this season is going and I was pissed Mullen retained Grantham after last season, but I’m willing to give Mullen a 5th year with the firing of Grantham, CRob, Montinar, Knox and Hevesy…a total rehaul of his staff and bring in some recruiters and make recruiting the #1 priority (probably wishful thinking that he’d actually do this). I’m weary of entering a coaching search right because I don’t see any sure fire upgrades unless a miracle happened and Urban came back. I also don’t like the idea of hiring defensive minded coaches because of how important quarterback development is. I know a lot of people may disagree with me but this is where I stand as of today. Now, if Mullen were to lose any of the remaining games my tune could change very quickly.

I’m down with this. Jamey Chadwell is my #2.

most definitely

this is what we want, but what are our expectations?

he rebuilds the staff
he finally gets the players

what's the timeline we're willing to give him year?

1 year?
2 years?
3?
4?

Naive to think bringing in good recruiting assistants is going to fix the weakness. Recruiting starts/ends with the HC.

oh i believe that wholeheartedly, but regardless of who gets the recruits in, what's the timeline on getting the results on/off the field?

Any body know Mullens buy out because I'm sure it's alot.

For the record I have been complaining about giving a guy a raise and extension for a moral victory in the SEC championship game. I'm very unhappy about this whole season and the way it has gone with everything mainly the Tucky & LSWHO losses.

But there is no way you can fire him this year not without cause and at least that is one thing you can say about Mullen is there is no extracurricular activity.

We a need to step back see how he handles the rest of the season and his signing class and bowl game. See where we are at on Jan 1St and how we are looking.

I want to see legitimate progress on the recruiting trail by next summer (Friday Night Lights or whatever they call our big recruiting weekend in late July). Is that an unrealistic expectation, I don’t know. But it really doesn’t matter unless Mullen meets my expectation of making the playoff by year 5. Like I said in another thread, that’s always been my expectation for Mullen. For me, it’s usually 4 years for a new coach but I gave Mullen an extra year because of how bad the program was from 2010-2017 and how successful he was in his first 2-3 seasons. Give Mullen a 5th year with AR15 and some new coaching additions, and have a playoff or bust expectation. That’s where I’m at.

i don't think the upcoming recruiting class and a new defensive system will guarantee a playoff spot. maybe if they expand it, but it definitely won't be a top 4 contender next year. i would think it would take at least 2-3 recruiting classes to make up for it ('23-'25) and i don't think we're willing to give him that much time.

I hear you, but that’s not my problem, that’s Mullen’s problem. He didn’t fire Grantham when he was supposed to and he hasn’t taken recruiting seriously. He likes to talk about the “Gator Standard”…well the Gator Standard is to win the SEC, make the playoffs and win National championships. 5 years should be plenty of time to do that. All the players will be his guys. If he wants to talk about how he doesn’t pay attention to recruiting rankings and he has his own ranking and grading system, that’s fine, but you better be able to win championships with the guys you grade out higher than the 4 and 5 stars that 24/7 sports grades out.

Agreed.

But at the same time we have to see continuing progress if we don't punch our ticket to the playoff. This whole Jekyll and Hyde shite, not knowing which team will show up on any given Saturday bothers the hell out of me.
