OMG, Straws, give it a rest!
It's the off-season and Franks just hit 50% at scrimmage again after everyone was talking about how elite he was going to be.
I think he'll be successful, but I also think that whoever replaces him will make all of us go "Feleipe who?"
I'm tired of hearing how amazing he is. I'm ready to see it.

I am ready to see improvement as well. Needs to take another step up from last year.
I trust Mullen to pick the right QB to run his offense. The turnaround on the quality of playmakers has been amazing. Under Muschamp and Mac, maybe one or two dangerous guys. Now, they are at every offensive skill position and two deep.
Perfect example is a guy like Freddy Swain. Under Mac he is a possession WR. Under Mullen, he is returning punts for TDs and making CBs miss on screens.

I've always understood why coaches go to Feleipe, but I don't think mentally he deserves to be on the field. I'm hoping he evolves into a mature player this year.
Totally agreed with the skill positions, I don't ever remember having this much experience coupled with talent. All of the guys have at least a year of playing, and indeed Swain and even Hammond sort of grew up before our eyes.
I'm just hoping that Franks can get them the ball consistently this year, there's way too much talent on the outside to pass them over.

I am not in to name calling (dumbfrick)Straws if the coaches are picking Frank's as the starter then I guess what you are saying is mentally that Mullen should not be the head coach because he is the one person that keeps Frank's in
Honestly what has trask done in a game to make you think he is the be all end all of gator quarterbacks ( I'll wait for your answer not 10 paragraphs please just a straight to the point answer)

Don't ask a complicated question and tell me to not answer.
I'll put it simply: Whenever Trask has been asked to compete, he has performed better than Franks. This includes the Missouri game. He beat Franks in every passing category.
1. He's a calm, collected and generally decent guy.
2. He's stayed around this long despite Franks playing terribly.
3. He legitimately seems like he wants to help the team, not just himself.
Win competitions, be a decent person. That's all I ask.

We all know about Mizzou any other games?

Spring Game that I broke down and explained what Trask did better and of course, that's what happened in the Missouri game.
Total Yards (W/O YAC)
Trask: 95.
Franks: 12.
If that's not bad enough: I even looked up the assortment of passes.
Trask:
1 Cross (17 yards)
3 Outs (29 yards)
4 Hooks (34 yards)
1 B. Shoulder (18 yards)
2 Screens (-3 yards)
Franks:
2 Hooks (9 yards)
1 Out (5 yards)
1 Slant (5 yards)
4 Screens (-7 yards)
Different types of passes:
Trask:5
Franks: 4
Passes of 6 yards or more:
Trask: 8
Franks: 0
Passes of 10 yards or more:
Trask: 6
Franks: 0
Average yards per completion:
Trask: 8.7
Franks: 1.7
That's why I knew Trask would outperform him in downfield passing, and it's exactly what happened.
Because you hate reading:
I say give Trask a shot if he beats Franks in this next Spring Game. He's won the scrimmages and the only competition he was permitted to play in.

Someone is so obsessed about a Gator QB that he must sleep, dream and think every waking hour about this QB.
But someone bashes this QB at every opportunity like a 17 yr old. There is a mental hitch in this giddy up and folks can plainly see your problem. Its not normal man.
No matter what our QB does you will wait to see some flaw to jump and down with glee. I hope he tears it up and the silence will be golden.

After all this banter back and forth I think the better question is this.
What do you think CDM sees in Franks to start him game after game when he’s being out played consistently in practic, scrimmage, and any other time?
Shrug.
This question is meant for anyone not a particular poster.

Like I said a while back, IF this were happening there wouldve been a fricking mutiny by now from the players or someone wouldve said something to that effect after a bad game by Franks.. Not one player hinted thats the case nor did any reporter at practice bring it up at a presser or podcast ect.

I literally say it every single time it's brought up:
Leadership.
Trask has the personality of a yam. I think it all boils down to that. Trask just isn't the: "This is my team, give it to me" type of guy that Mullen looks for and Franks is.
However, if Franks still struggles this year, it will have been a monumental mistake to dedicate this much time to him.

No way, man. Remember when I was defending Driskel to high hell and I said he was clearly better than Treon and everyone called me a troll?
Remember when I said Driskel had all the tools to be an outstanding Quarterback and no one stood up for him?
Same concept. Players, often times, choose their Quarterbacks in today's scheme. Popularity with teammates -- they fight a little harder to make it work, don't fight as hard for the next guy because they want you to win. shite, we all did it when we were young, we tried to boost our friends over people who weren't.
In the end, Franks is the guy that gets along with the team and Trask isn't.
And again, Trask will likely develop into a pretty solid Quarterback and Franks likely won't. I really hope he dominates the Spring Game this year, because in his third year if he's still struggling to beat out someone who has never started a game in his life that's a really bad sign.
But don't think the team will automatically choose the best guy. They chose Treon "Wide Receiver at Middle Tennessee State University" Harris over Jeff "Starting Quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals" Driskel.

Straws Driskel @ Florida was a great practice player but just could not translate that to game day. Unfortunately and no disrespect to driskel (this is at Florida) as a player on game day just did not perform well and needed a fresh start and I'm glad he went on and did well elsewhere.
What does this have to do with the Franks / Trask thing not sure exactly where you are going with this other than to say trask on some days may be a better practice player but Franks is the better game day player.

It's so difficult to keep myself in check, because it's literally an answer to Buch's question.
"Players would mutiny if x player was better than y player."
quote:

No, that team did not give him the same effort they gave Treon. An OL admitted to it after the game. "Treon's a Freshman, we have to block harder."
Some guys inspire others to play harder, Trask doesn't.
I don't think it's because Driskel or Trask are bad guys, quite the opposite: Both seemed to absolutely adore Florida and stay out of trouble despite being booed (Driskel) and slandered.
To be completely honest I think it was a white vs. black thing with Driskel, with Franks and Trask I think it's a experience vs. new guy thing.

i think that implies that Franks is on top.

We've been saying it all spring, so forgive us if this sounds a little repetitive, but there's a big gap in play right now between Franks and the other quarterbacks.

Of Del Rio.
Of Trask last year (until Missouri game).
Of Trask this year (until first scrimmage).
Franks is the guy, no reason to pretend he isn't. If a QB can hit 84 yards against a sub-100 pass defense and not worry about his job, he's always going to be on top no matter how shitty he plays when the lights are on.
He has always practiced well.

Franks couldn’t hit passes on air in practice his two years with Mac. That’s a fact.

Copy-paste, man. You guys literally fall for this ever year.

Let's hope this year it's real.

Except this year he’s coming off 31 touchdowns and 6 interceptions

Because of this, the QB position for the first time since Tebow is not a concern for me this season.
The O-line, safety, tight end are my biggest concerns.
