seen vids of Philo throwing 40-50 yard passes
That’s not below avg in any aspect.
And we've all seen the games. Philo cannot make this throw.

Philo

Literally the first pass of the highlight reel
Same route, same distance.

Not the same distance, definitely not the same velocity on the ball.

Jones was on the left hash released the ball on the 46 caught on the 19 yd line. To the right sideline.

Philo was on the right hash released on the 38 caught on the 40.. To the right sideline

Jones is clearly better physically, and it doesn't take much to see that. I'm not saying Jones is our savior or he's a great QB. He's played one game. And his accuracy is not great, I've seen enough of Philo to know what he is. If you believe Philo is a better QB. That's fine.
He's not, but it doesn't matter, what we think.

He takes the snap on the left hash but he’s literally standing on the longhorn logo when the ball leaves his hand, damn near dead center of the field give or take a yard.

Everybody crying over velocity, idgaf about velocity, AR had a shite ton of velocity but couldn’t accurately get the ball from point A to point B on a consistent basis.
Neither of these guys has a howitzer on their shoulder. Hell, even coach said if one is a little faster or a little better passer it ain’t by much either way so ppl are splitting hairs either way.
All I know is we are not gonna beat Georgia averaging 4 yards a pass so if Jones starts he’s gotta do a better job getting the ball to our guys in position to do something after the catch instead of the spot throws he did vs Texas.

Anyone speaking in absolutes about either guy is being hyperbolic at this point.

Tramell is an unknown still in terms of who he actually is and I would say Philo is too if we are being honest. Whoever ultimately wins this job and goes into next year as the presumed starter isn't going to do so because of physical tools, its going to be running the offense and processing.

Philo has more years in the system but has only really been running it in actual games this year... he's still very much a baby in terms of game experience.

Tramell has the physical edge, but the mental side and accuracy are question marks. He is even more of a baby than Philo is, so those can very much be things he improves on with experience.

The great thing is that no matter who wins the job ultimately, I don't believe leadership will be a problem. These guys are both fantastic teammates and leaders.

The checkdown thing is a concern for me. Last year when he came in against Kentucky we were already down big and he threw for 60 yards on 17 attempts.

If Philo is healthy, he will be the starter.

All of that is your opinion. I can can clearly see which of the two is a better athlete. That's my opinion. Philo is mentally ahead of Jones. Just from being in the system. But, Jones clearly is more athletic and has a higher ceiling.

I agree. I think most do. Philo is a great guy, but very limited.

Verse teams that shut down the run like Georgia, we def need to be a threat to pass the ball.

There’s nothing statistically that backs up Jones being a better passer or having more down field passing ability.

It is about offensive flow. We are bad at QB..but have a very good RB and WR group. Just want a QB who lets them make plays.

I'm just sayin if we played a team and I told you we held their QB to 155 yards on 35 passes, everyone in here would be like Damn, that guy sucks ..

I'm not saying he sucks, just dont think as a passer he is our better option.
IF he's the guy Saturday, I really do hope I am wrong.

We are bad at QB.

I just don't understand where this opinion is coming from. Both of our QBs are game managers that typically hit the open receiver, make the correct reads and run the offense efficiently. I would take either over the QBs we have had since Trask. The fact our o -line doesn't always open holes for the running backs and misses a blitz pickup more than they should doesn't mean that the QBs are bad. Both have high % completions and TD to interception ratings. It is a position that we need to improve going forward but Tim Tebow isn't running out or the tunnel on Saturday and it could be a lot worse.

I saw a stat earlier this week that concerns us dawg fans. Faulkner has faced UGA 3 times and has only had two 3 and outs.

We aren’t “bad” at QB, we are average. I agree that isn’t where we want or need to be but for now, that’s where we are. There’s no difference in Philo/Jones outside of one being more comfortable operating the full offense. This offense with Philo AND Jones, is as good as the OL plays, period. Neither QB changes the offenses narrative.

This!

If we beat Georgia, it won’t be because either QB had a 400 yard day with 3 plus tds

Against Georgia:

Bama ran for 161 yards on 29 carries. They average 151 rushing yards per game

Auburn 192 yards on 46 carries. 165rypg

Vanderbilt 26 carries for 85 yards. 106rypg

Oklahoma 65 yards on 35 carries. Their average is 105rypg, so Georgia did well against them and especially so considering YPC.

Arkansas 17 yards on 20 carries. Now thats a shutdown game. They average 111 per game.

I think we are closer to Auburn and Alabama than we are Oklahoma and Arkansas. But Georgia will be rested (and so will we, FWIW). Higher quality teams ran for about what they usually run for against them, so I wouldn't say they "shut down the run" as a blanket statement, but they are capable of doing so.
