I left Columbia in the summer of 2014.
First our football and baseball programs go to shite.
Then Finlay Park goes to hell.
Now Yesterdays closes after 43 years?
What the hell are you guys doing to the city in my absence?

I know COVID probably put this over the hump
But were they struggling before?

Apparently they did get new owners in January. The old owners claimed there were no issues, they were just ready to retire. There's no telling if that was BS or not.
With that said, even if there were no issues I can see why the new owner would be quick to shutter. You buy this restaurant in 5 points after what I assume took some time to negotiate and less than 2 months later the world shuts down and it's a huge financial drain. If they don't have any attachment to it I can understand them cutting it loose pretty quickly.

Too many Yankees who don't appreciate the wonderful taste of a Confederate fried steak. But seriously, too many damn Yankees.

So what do you think happens?
How’s this work? Sell to someone else who reopens it as Yesterday’s?

Since the economy is destroyed why don't you come on down from Yankeedom and buy Yesterdays and reopen it.
"Yesterdays and IBG Emporium" has a nice ring to it.

No BS, my parents met in that bar. I thought the cowboy in the tub was the coolest shite when I was a kid.

Yeah. The small town I am trapped in... err.. living in, has what used to be a great family Italian restaurant. The owners retired about 8 years ago and let their son run it. It went down hill. Fast.
They came back for two years and it was fine. They retired again and sold the place. It went down hill once again. They've had like four different owners the last three years. Ouch.
That is the trouble with family restaurants. Unless you get a really good second generation family member to run it things can really go off the rails quickly.

Well, the old owners were also the original owners. So they could just have been old and ready to retire.
This place will 99.9% be a chain restaurant. A place with no soul or charm....and Dick Hartpoolian will have to sign off.
