In its response, the NCAA says it has no legal responsibility "to ensure the academic integrity of the courses offered to student-athletes at its member institutions."

What the actual frick?

I get that the NCAA isn't regularly checking in on courses to make sure they're legit, but if a school is found to be giving fake classes and directing "student"-athletes to those courses so that they are eligible to play, you slap them with lack of institutional control and level the boom on them as a warning to every other university.

Dickless move by the NCAA and it ought to be the final nail in their coffin.

This is absolutely nuts. How do other schools respond given the energy and resources dedicated to actually trying to do the right thing? I'd be hot as hell if I had players suspended for grades but then the NCAA does nothing about fraud at this level.

Or better yet...when do we see the AL Football Studies Major unveiled?

Pretty much but the NCAA has always treated the schools as separate and unequal. Some schools have the NCAA golden Halo of protection and UNC is one of these.

UNC and NCAA are now in a partnership....b/c sure, if your transgressions fly in the face of the mission statement of the NCAA, but the NCAA doesn't want to do a damn thing about it...might as well circle the wagons with them....

https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/education/unc-scandal/article18880224.html

quote:

Six months after a report recounting 18 years of academic fraud at UNC-Chapel Hill, few clues have emerged as to where the NCAA is headed with its investigation.

But contacts with at least two potential witnesses show the NCAA is treating UNC as a partner in the case, despite the previous efforts UNC mounted to convince the NCAA and the public that the fraud had no athletic motive.

In one circumstance, the NCAA received documents from a former graduate school admissions director, Cheryl Thomas, that showed a football player had been admitted and given a fourth year of eligibility despite a low GPA and no entrance exam. It forwarded the documents to a lawyer representing UNC, emails show. The lawyer then sought to interview her.

When she didn’t respond, the NCAA contacted her by email for an interview. But that email shows the NCAA wanted UNC to participate.
When she didn’t respond, the NCAA contacted her by email for an interview. But that email shows the NCAA wanted UNC to participate.

quote:

“It doesn’t make rational sense,” said Donna Lopiano, a former director of women’s athletics at the University of Texas. “I know the institution does have an obligation under NCAA rules to assess itself and report a violation. But as soon as the NCAA comes in, I don’t understand the university’s participation.”

She and others have criticized the NCAA’s handling of the UNC case. For more than two years, the NCAA accepted the university’s position that the fraud wasn’t about athletics because non-athletes were also in the fake classes and received the same high grades.

But Kenneth Wainstein’s investigation last fall found athlete eligibility at the heart of the scandal.

quote:

NCAA officials declined a reporter’s request to talk about the UNC case, or the enforcement process. NCAA President Mark Emmert has said the scandal “potentially strikes at the heart of what higher education is about.” But he has not said whether he thinks what happened at UNC constitutes a violation of NCAA academic integrity rules.

quote:

SACS is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which accredits UNC. The commission has requested more information about the scandal and is expected to consider sanctions against the university in June.

Now this part is news to me. I thought SACS already washed their hands of it. We'll find out if SACS wants people to still value their academic institution accreditations or not.

With that in mind I will say this - the ACC is a pussy if they do not lower the boom on UNC. And that ain't gonna happen with UNC chogey boy Swofford as the Commish up there.

This part is picking up steam. The ACC Commissioner, John Swofford was the AD at UNC...DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE ACADEMIC FRAUD/FAKE CLASSES. These fake classes/degrees date back to '94. Swofford was unc's AD from 1980 to 1997. Swofford wants all this to go away as much as anyone. It shows that he was Captain when the cheating started and carried through several years under his leadership/lack of oversight.

The problem is when you spend generations calling other schools out for cheating you go into massive denial when you do it on an even greater level.

Don't tell me you are surprised.

https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/former-unc-player-chris-hawkins-arrested-for-violating-state-agent-laws-161106973.html

quote:

Chris Hawkins, a former defensive back at North Carolina and Marshall, has been arrested and charged with violating North Carolina's state sports agent law.
Hawkins, 32, faces two charges of trying to get former Tar Heels defensive end Robert Quinn to sign with him in 2010 and initiating contact with former UNC defensive back Jabari Parker in 2013.

Both of these acts violate North Carolina's law that bars people from illegally luring collegiate athletes into contracts. North Carolina is one of 43 states with a sports agent law.

According to court documents, Hawkins is accused of giving Quinn $13,700 in cash and helping him sell game-used equipment for $1,700. Hawkins approached Parker via Instagram before he was a registered agent. Hawkins also is accused of intentionally failing to register as an athlete agent.

Hawkins was arrested Monday and was being held on a $500,000 bond Tuesday. Hawkins is the latest arrest in the ongoing probe into illegal benefits obtained by University of North Carolina athletes.

Well ... there is an upside to this on our recruiting trail I am hearing.

We'll see if it pays-off in our favor.

The NCAA submitted UNC with their Notice Of Allegations (NOA) today, thus making it official that the NCAA investigation has begun....

I hope they burn, but I won't hold my breath for it to happen. This is the largest academic fraud case in the history of SACS and american universities in general...I don't see how they couldn't burn for it, but they are a wile bunch up there.

what can we Gamecocks do at BofA in Charlotte to "honor" the goats on their NCAA violations and systematic fraud???

throw fake rolled up diplomas on the field when the goats run out? chant "N-C-A-A"?

maybe the Carolina Band can form "AF-AM 101" while playing "You Lie" by the band Perry at halftime...or something along those lines. our crowd could sing the chorus along with the band.

Because you lie like a priceless Persian rug on a rich man's floor
Well, You lie like a coon dog basking in the sunshine on my porch
Well, You lie like a penny in the parking lot at the grocery store
It just comes so dang natural to you
The way you lie
The way you lie
Well it's what you do, it's who you are

I've been trying to think of sign ideas. "University of Noted or Notorious Cheaters" has been the best I could do.

Something about Sepp Blatter and FIFA could be better if that story is stilling getting air time in September

You could do something with Ruxon from The League

"Forever UNClean" with the UNC part in baby blue and maybe Butch Jones and Roy Williams standing behind him holding diplomas.
