They should have played this Marshall ballgame ...

... and before anyone says, "well, they had to err on the side of safety," here's the whole story.
Marshall was willing to come down Thursday and he ready to play the game Friday night, Saturday at noon, even Sunday. They were committed to getting here. All they asked was that, if they came they get paid.
With regard to crowd control and traffic control. Unaffected counties were willing to provide county officers to compensate for missing State Troopers that may be called to work the coast.
Was there still a chance the game might not have been played? Yes, but every model had us getting nothing but rain as early as Wednesday afternoon when the decision was made not to play the game.
Why didn't we play it?
Here's the reasons I was given.
Hotel rooms normally allocated for visiting and out of state fans were needed for coastal evacuees.
State Troopers were promised to the coastal highways and they felt they didn't have enough time to coordinate the use of county LEOs from unaffected counties to control traffic flow.
Attendance would be down, less that 25% would attend, and if the game was moved-up TV would have been sent to an SEC Alt channel so revenue would have been down.
Bottom line is that they totally disregarded the adverse affect this could have on the season, not just in adding potentially another win ... but in putting this team out of sync.
Someone even brought up potential issues with getting the team up for this game in an odd time slot.
This was all about money. It was going to cost us a couple of hundred thousand dollars ... no chance to break even. So, given other worries they just decided to call it and it was a sissy frickin' move.

Agree with you.
My question is if we have a makeup game with either WVU or VT? I’m assuming it would be a road game given the state championship games are the Saturday proposed. Either road game it is I will be going, if it happens.

Yeah, I have not heard about either being a done deal although both are on the table and I know they would have to commit by mid October.
Georgia is not going to lose two games even if we go undefeated in conference play the rest of the way so I don't even understand why they are using that excuse as a possibility. We're not going to Atlanta.
As far as venue goes, as I understand, it would be a high bid agreement with whoever is willing to play a game that weekend. I've also heard that it could be UNC or NC State but who knows.
I would go to any of the four mentioned and just give my SECCG tickets to a buddy of mine who is a big Bama fan if they go. Or I'd sell them to a UGA buddy of mine. LSU or Auburn could represent from the West I suppose.
Personally, I'd like to see us do a deal with UNC or NC State. Tanner could finally prove his worth and earn his money if he could do a deal with his alma mater and get them to come down here.

I completely agree that this game should have been played.
I'm getting sick of that line.
There is no reason why public schools and the university needed to be closed for 4 days this week.
There is no reason that state government needed to be shut down for 4 days this week.
There is no reason why an arrangement couldn't be made so that this game could be played.

Never got more than 2-3 inches of rain and light wind at my house in Forest Acres. We100 percent should have played, even if it was a Thursday or Friday affair.

UVA was not a money issue so relocated to Nashville without a second thought.
Another possibility is play the game @ Marshall as they would not have anything scheduled there as they were supposed to be on the road. Huntington is close to the KY border and on this past Saturday the weather was in the 80's and clear.

A yet unexplored possibility would have been to play a double header with one of the other SEC schools that was unaffected by the storm.
For example, we could have played back to back in Knoxville, Starkville or College Station

Has this ever been done? This looks like a nightmare to pull off. Getting everyone out of the stadium and parking area, cleaning up stadium, locker rooms,restocking everything. Just don't see this working on the same day.

In this case, you wouldn't clear the stadium. UT was already letting folks from SC and NC in to the game for free. You'd just tee the game up an hour or two after the first game ended. Sure you'd take a revenue hit, but at least you'd get the game in.
Clearing and cleaning the locker rooms would be the biggest issue.
FWIW, I remember SC letting us (the Citadel) play a game in Williams Bryce after Hugo when Johnson Haygood got nuked. They bused the entire Corps of Cadets up from Columbia...

Well TV revenue should still be intact and you get the concessions. Labor is already there (and often free) so payroll should be less than a stand alone game.

I still think they should have teamed up with UVA and just had a doubleheader in Vanderbilt's stadium.
