quote:

Will Muschamp was hired this week to replace Spurrier at South Carolina, and everyone’s wondering what Spurrier thinks about the school’s hire. The State paper caught up with Spurrier this week.

“I think Will and his staff will do very well,” Spurrier said.

“He’s a well respected defensive coach. For whatever reason down at Florida the offense never quite got going, but I’m sure he learned a lot and he’s ready to go.”

quote:

As for Spurrier, he told The State that he’ll find something to do soon that will take up some of his time and that he’s completely at peace with his decision to resign. According to the paper, Spurrier donated his last paycheck of $70,000 to the Gamecock Club.
nice gesture

Gotta love the guy ... he did a lot for us that we'll owe him for, forever.

The HBC is not happy that more of his coaches were not retained ... but he has moved-on. He's in NYC tonight, with G.A., getting ready for his appearance on this year's Heisman presentation show for the first time in years.

G.A. is disgruntled as hell.

He should have left behind a better staff. Adams, Ward, Jr, Hoke (especially) were all unmitigated disasters in their roles. Jr is a fine WR coach, but he was miserable as RC.

I've really liked GA, and thought he has done a good job developing QBs for us. But I also understand why Muschamp wants to move on, and bring in his own guy. At this point, I can't imagine that GA would be comfortable becoming QB coach again, after having been an OC for half of the season. He's going to do well as an OC for someone - I just hope it's not Penn State. Shady cats up there.

I think GA should have been retained. Not as OC though, I don't know what his OC resume' looks like. Everyone was responsible for calling plays, so as far as I can tell, he doesn't have a true OC resume' here.

It's crazy to think that penn st would want him as an OC, even though we aren't hiring him as an OC here and he has no OC resume' the past 5 years. GA is a decent recruiter, but I wouldn't put him in the Top25 recruiters nationally. Maybe they lowered their expectations. Is this really all about getting McIlwain with them?

It was with G.A. ... he evidently tried playing the McIlwain card and it didn't work.

Desperation move backfired.

Not crazy about how it all was handled after the team meeting Sunday night ... but big business is big business and that is the way we're doing things these days.

This was a cool move for sure! To hell with all the people who think Spurrier's a bad dude.

Hopefully then the Champ/Roper visit will secure McIlwain for us. #fingerscrossed

Should do just that. Roper and McIlwain have a good relationship.

Well, he shouldn't have left behind one of the worst staffs in all the P5 conferences.
