Yeah. It's a really odd business model. You're limiting your audience growth by your price point and, thus, limiting what you could make via ad revenue. Makes little sense, but I'm sure they'll come around. Too much talent for it to not survive.

I'm actually thinking about it. I really miss thoughtful, well-written sports articles by professional journalists and find that they are not easy to find on any of the bigger sports websites anymore.

It's dirt cheap and the writing is both daily and analytical. It's also populated with really good writers.
I don't pay for any sports journalism but I took it for a test drive and decided to keep paying. It's fantastic.

It's a great site. No hot takes, just old school writing and beat writing. I love it.
Their major league baseball coverage is the best in the country IMHO.

Is he gonna stay on that new mid-day show on Job? If he doesn't, they need to find some good talent. It seems like all they do on that show is read tweets.

Not so sure...they're not doing any advertising or click bait stories on the site. Its strictly content oriented along with snatching up some of the best beat
writers in the country.Newspapers are dying and there is a lot of garbage writing and information out there
on free sites.

I'd gladly pay for a return of actual journalism. Free doesn't mean shite when the content is composed by semiliterate fricksticks.
What you get from most sites is less informative than this board.

It's really good. There are no "LeBron says Erin Popovich's death is sad" kind of stories. No click bait, no auto-play videos, no ads junking up the site and my computer or phone, the app marks stories you've already ready, and there are some really good interesting stories by writers who have been good elsewhere. The college football coverage is outstanding, and so is the MLB coverage.
I was skeptical, but I liked the trial and bought a dirt-cheap, 1-year subscription in December. It's better than the "game-worn Game 7 Jeter jersey goes for $25K" stories that seem to populate ESPN's Top Stories era these days.

yes i signed up for a year. 36 bucks. not having to worry about auto play video ads at work makes it more than worth it. there expanding SEC coverage makes it even more appealing.

I have been considering it. They have some fantastic baseball writers.

Aaron said today he will be able to do both. The show will be his main gig but will do side writing for them.

Dear God, that's so sad. But, I'm afraid you're right.

The very purpose of going to a subscription model is so they won't need ad revenue. There are no ads on The Athletic.

I get all my info on Bama, on here from AU24 or Bowl.

Does anyone get sports info from newspapers anymore ? I really think a lot of the beat writers get their info from the fansite reports. And their commentary from online posters.

You want to see exemplary writing on the the Tigers, go read the Rant. They are like Hemingway in their writings, especially their affinity to bash the coach and QBs who have a better than expected spring game.
