Good points but hiring Joab Thomas hiring Bill Curry was a administrative power play. Everyone in the athletic dept and boosters wanted Bobby Bowden

In 1989, Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama finshed the year 6-1 in the conference and were co champions. Bama beat UT, UT beat AU, and AU beat Bama, nullifying the head to head tie breakers. So Bill Curry didn't really win the sec, but rather won a share of it at Alabama. Alabama was selected by the SugarBowl by being the highest ranked(AP poll) SEC team at the end of the season. However, Miami defeated Curry's Tide team and both AU and UT were ranked ahead of Bama in the final poll(AP).
Alabama played nat'l champ Miami heads-up and lost by a TD in the Sugar Bowl.

Miami also had 2 clear fumbles in that game if under today's reviews Alabama gets those turnovers and wins the game.

See also Mike DuBose.

What does this tell you about Bama's magical ability to bring in recruits regardless of who the coach is?

I mean, he literally got canned due to a massive recruiting violation.

Bill Curry was a pure as the white driven snow though. Part of the reason he was hired was because the people in control at UA at the time were kinda sanctimonious. The school leadership wanted to hire a guy that was entirely above the board and ethical just as the sport was taking a hard turn towards the more ethically ambiguous due to the money getting bigger w/ television revenues.

That's not what I was arguing. I was responding to the poster who said DuBose couldn't recruit. On paper, his '99 recruiting class was #2 in the conference behind Georgia and his '00 recruiting class was #1 in the SEC.
