Why did Ole Miss and Miss State move away from the two best mascots in college sports?

Used to love playing the NCAA Football games like 99-2003 and seeing those mascots on the game.
Two of the classic GOATs.
Sad that Ole Miss has been cucked into being the black bears and state is using an atrocious modern logo.

I grew up in Meridian, Mississippi, in the middle of the State-Ole Miss rivalry. Seeing those two logos you’ve posted transports me back to 1985 when I was in the 5th grade.

I remember going to the BAMA-Ole Miss game in 2011 and seeing tailgaters with signs that said No Bears Allowed. My sister has got a picture with Colonel Reb

Colonel Reb was racist and the black bear was actually a good mascot. Land shart is god awful though.

We had to change the mascot because other schools were using it to negative recruit against us. Then their dipshit fanbases called us "pussies" for taking that away

Not sure I buy the Rebel, it's a good mascot idea, but not sure how much actual rebel fighting rich plantation owners did themselves. Probably none.
