Am I the only one that wants tu to make it to their championship? Would love to see them keep Tom Herman for another year. Also, if they win, there's a chance we might play them in a bowl game, I think. In general I don't want to play them, but hey if it plays out that way, not a terrible way to finish the season.

I would rather have K State or Iowa St.. lose another game, but still be the big 12 champs

Short of a total collapse I think mensa will be their coach next season.

They aren't going to fire him after going 6-4 in the year of COVID.

And they don’t have the money, no matter how much they beat their chest it is a fact they are almost broke right now. No one is donating anything they can’t fund their end zone renovation they couldn’t pay for their basketball arena, they are in deep Doo Doo financially.

Yeah, but don't you think they would pay to get Herman out?

Nope, think about his buyout, plus all of his assistants buyouts, plus the cost to buy out the contract of another coach and bring in new assistants

You’re talking about $35-$45 million to make it happen. They don’t have that

Didn't realize it was that much. If it is, then you're definitely right. Which is great news to me.

Well internet geniuses will tell you it’s just a matter of giving Herman his guaranteed 16 million at the end of this season. But it’s not, they will have to buy out all of his assistants then pony up dough for the new guy and pay all new assistants. It’s not as cheap as just buying out the head coach all alone

Real internet geniuses know this isn't how buyouts work

Uh, that is the point of Sarge’s (sarcastic) post. Most “internet geniuses” ... aren’t.

I agree, but even he is misrepresenting how the buyout would work (UT doesn't have to a check for $16 million if they fire him) while saying other people don't understand

Do we know this for a fact? Kinda reads like one of those things you read on SurlyHorns about us, i.e., a little "Randolph Duke-ish.

No but the board will not let them fire him unless they have that $16 million promised/guaranteed. They won’t just let the AD hope and pray they will be able to come up with the additional $6 million in year two and three.

Texas boosters have the money. What they don't have is an obvious home run hire. I highly doubt Urban Meyer would take the Texas job over the USC job. USC has less pressure, a greater recruiting advantage over the entire Pac12 South, and he already lives there.

Texas would probably be looking to match what we have done and hire a big name coach that has a proven record. I'm sure they'll make their ritual run at Nick Saban, and then they'll call Dabo, and then they'll do a welfare check on Bob Stoops, until finally settling for Napier.

How sure are we that Herman doesn’t get another year?

Herman gets AT LEAST another year

Only way he is fired early next year is if he goes 1-5

Agreed, I think he gets till at least next year and any kind of success next year buys him more time
