NOBODY has produced a "shite ton" of credible journalists in 50+ years.

Yes, grads from your school are pumping out clickbait for every bleeding heart liberal rag in the US. Congrats on that.

State capitals are not "college towns". Neither are metros with 250K+ populations.

From living in Athens and Fayetteville, athens might be a better pure college town. Has more bars and way better music scene. Fayetteville is a better all around town and place to live. Has good nightlife and outdoors. Unlike Athens, there arent really bad areas I wouldnt go. It's all nice. Athens is an hour to ATL but at least Fay is a core city of NWA.

Columbia SC is a college town.
Don't lie and act like it's a thriving metropolis.

Athens and Fayetteville

Certainly cream of the crop in the SEC, and unarguably around the country. I went to Fayetteville during the Stafford years and enjoyed it.

As for Columbia SC, it’s definitely not a college town. Missoula and Bozeman are more of ones, despite being known locally as college towns.

Yes it is.
Without the college it is absolutely nothing
Everything there revolves around UofSC.
IMO the only “big city” in SEC that isn’t a college town is Nashville
