Freeze.

He had the offensive playcalling experience and I feel like him and Rich Rod together would be a dangerous combination on the field.

Scandal aside, he was a great coach that got this program running to the tune of a championship contender.

I'm thinking that the game has passed him by and although he was a good coach at one point, he hasn't really been all that great lately. I would rather have an up and coming high energy guy than an old guy that probably doesn't have another rebuild in him.

Freeze is a weird arse mother fricker and he always gave me an “off” vibe when everyone else I know was in love with him. His last year was also an absolute shite show and we lost a few games we should’ve dominated.

That being said, I’d 1000000% take him back. Being a student at OM while we suck frickin sucks. We were actually good while I was still in high school so I didn’t/won’t get to experience that with Luke :(

I think the smart money favors that happening. That may not impact Luke staying, but it will definitely impact how he gets replaced.

The only reason some people on this board don’t feel the same way they do about Freeze as the do about Nutt and Cutcliff is because Freeze didn’t get to stay around long enough to coach the fruits (or lack of fruits) of his labor in recruiting defense. If Freeze stayed around to finish out his contract he probably wouldn’t be coaching us right now due to lack of results on the field.

I agree Matt Luke isn’t the answer but y’all want Freeze back on the sidelines in a hospital bed.. We might as well all start wearing clown suits to games.

I can respect that mindset about Freeze but I don’t agree with it. The truth is, we don’t know what would have happened had Freeze stuck around. One bad season on his part doesn’t negate that he brought us to the national stage and captured nearly a hat trick against elite Alabama teams. FSU and Bama losses were shitty, but think real hard about how that last season might be different if we walk away with those wins. And we damn near did!

We definitely had some WAOM losses under Freeze. But the fact he came in and made a 4-8/2-10 team into a winning program in his first season with steady improvement spoke volumes. I think the defensive staff we had under him was underrated (Wommack/Allen era). Several of the stars we had were 3 stars. Something was working right when our defense was confidently walking into top ranked matchups, and it wasn’t just a “paid for” Robert Nkemdiche.

I think Freeze was the right coach for Ole Miss it just fell apart due to a combination of pettyness by NCAA/opposing fan bases and poor decision making on Freeze’s own part. All these schools are cheating, so I just roll my eyes and laugh anytime the cheater card comes out.

Maybe it’s just because I had to suffer through the end of the Nutt era, but Freeze did some good things for OM football. We could easily still be on what, a 20 year losing streak to Bama? People forget to that... wasn’t Wallace recruited by Freeze?

I would take him back and would be willing to give him two losing seasons to redevelop a system. But theres a snowcone’s chance in hell it would ever happen.

I don't understand the people who pine for Freeze. I had as much fun at the Sugar Bowl as the next guy but at some point you have to acknowledge the absolute shite show he left. I don't think Luke is the answer either but stop bringing that dude up.

A lot of people believe that it wouldn't be nearly a shitshow if he was left in charge to fix the issues from 2016.

He created them. His fix was hiring a OC who got destroyed on TV right before hiring him and hiring a guy as DC who had never been one and will never be one again.

Freeze wouldn't have hired Rich Rod in a million years!

We don’t know that. We don’t know what action he might have taken if he finishes out that year and the next. Let’s assume Freeze has a similar season to Luke’s first official season. I have confidence Freeze would have addressed the issues. He wouldn’t have settled for that mediocrity. People act like we would have just been stuck with the decisions he made a little ways ahead of his departure. So we weren’t going to give him the cushion for taking chances on Longo and McGriff? It’s just, hey man you took us from shite to national competitiveness, but these coordinators you hired are garbage and here’s the door?? No chance for him to make adjustments just as Luke is getting?

Hopefully when we hire our next HC, I'll stop seeing these Freeze threads pop up.... he's obviously not returning

Can we afford to fire Luke though? Neal was saying to fire the staff would cost like 13 million.
