Where do the visitors sit at the Swamp? Think I am going to make the trek down, since its only once every 10 years or so now we get to go. What sections are for visiting teams? Any must eat restaurants? Things to see? Will be my first time in Gainesville for a game. I feel like ive read something about open containers too and cops being dicks? TIA

Best seats are directly behind the visitors bench they give a few rows there. It will be hot as balls and you will have to walk through a lot of Gator fans in the tunnels though and a lot of them students...so not sure how well that goes for visiting fans.
The visiting section is 45/47/49/A/B. Also "Sunshine seats" at the very top. Those seats suck but you do get to hear the full crowd noise echo really well up there so it kind of sounds cool when up there. I was actually up there in 07 for the Auburn game a few rows down from the Auburn fans and it was pretty fun. Besides losing of course.
Best resturants
Embers(Archer/34th)
Volcanic Sushi and Sake - Asian Fusion
Yum Yum(34th near Archer) - Chinese
The Swamp(near stadium, great freaking burgers)
Satchels - This place is a must go. Very unique Pizza and atmosphere. Do not leave Gainesville without going.
Wahoo's - Off interstate on 39th - Best seafood in town bar none.
Metro Diner(34th) - Really good portions for breakfast
Bagels and Noodles(University) - It doesn't look or sound right...but the best Pad Thai in Gainesville for sure.
Peach Valley Cafe - Great brunch area
As for Mexican...the best I've had here is kind of slummy looking and away from the stadium a bit on sixth. Lunch specials are like 8-10 bucks and the portions are amazing.
La Pasadita's - It looks ruggish...but that is what I want from a true Mexican resturant. La Teinda is great as well and a little more "modern" feel to it.
That should help some.

there's a small section that spans the length of the visitor sideline and the other section is in the north endzone in the upper deck. it's the last 20 rows or so under the scoreboard. "Sunshine Seats" they're called.

quote:Well, for a day game, I suppose the sun would be pretty brutal in the visitor's section, but we lucked out and had a night game for A&M's visit to Gainesville, and I'd have to say that the visitor's section at Florida is probably the best I've seen in the SEC. All the seats are contiguous, and even the worst seats presents a pretty good view. Take out the sun, and these are actually good seats.

I’m from Texas, but ow live in Minnesota.
I can’t read any recommendations for food that don’t include a hearty portion of Mexican, Cajun, or BBQ without bemoaning my lack of culinary options here. Can’t stand reading lists that are just more pizza and other crap that is not Texas food.

Add Relish for burgers, and Adams BBQ to that list.

Just stop at the Jort outlet in Gainesville , and you will fit right in

Our BBQ is not on point in Gainesville. As boxer said Adam's is pretty good though.
As for Mexican...the best I've had here is kind of slummy looking and away from the stadium a bit on sixth. Lunch specials are like 108 bucks and the portions are amazing.

Curious, are the Gainesville cops still really strict on open containers? Back in the day, UF friends of mine always warned us not to walk around with them.

Yea...they are a pain in the arse unless in a tailgate area. Don't walk around with open containers.
Put it in a Yeti cup and you are fine.

Thanks. Planning on making the trip this year, I just hate the Purple Porpoise is gone, had some good times in that joint.

Wasn't there a restaurant called the Copper Monkey? I think that was the name of it, had a killer hamburger if I remember right.

You’ll want to stay at the Knights Inn and party at the University Club...
