Yea, it sucks, whatever. Duke is sandwiched between Wisconsin, Southern Cal, FSU, Louisville, Southern Cal, Miami, Texas.
We'll survive and damn sure won't let the Chik Fil A folks pick (beg someone to be) our opponent again.

I had an Alabama fan last year try to tell me that their game against Duke (neutral site) would be just as tough as LSU's game @ Texas

I think the point was people are talking about Duke like they are Oregon State. They aren't a good #1 opponent for a program of our stature but they've been to a bowl 6 of the last 7 years and have won 8 or more games in 4 of those 8 years. They are a well coached, undermanned football team. I'd love for them to be our #2 OOC opponent, but not #1 (they'll be a better team than either of our last 2 ACC openers though).
And, honestly, it wouldn't shock me one bit if Texas goes 8-5 this season. Their hype train is ridiculous given what they did last year and what they return from it. I wouldn't be shocked if LSU whoops their arse.
Texas is still a better OOC opponent than Duke, though, obviously.

I am hopeful that the end of the neutral site opener is upon us. LSU has one more next year (although really its a home and home with Rice with the Houston game in NRG), but after that we are returning to home and homes. Looks like Bama is as well after 2021

Me too - I'm ok with 1 every 4-5 years, but the every year thing just flat out sucks. I'm very happy for the era of OOC games in NFL stadiums to be over.

Was this scheduled in 2005?

Texas beat your arse and finished 10-4
Utah State was 11-2
Ga Southern was 10-3
NW is an in state cream puff
Im actually really looking forward to 3/4 of those.

I'm not disagreeing. After years of quality opponents on opening day, we're opening with freakin' Duke.
At least we get USC, Miami, a series against Texas, etc afterwards.

I thought everyone was supposed to play a power 5 ooc. I know Miss State got away from doing this in the past but looks like it is still going on. No wonder other confereces want us to play 9 conf games.

Everyone has at least one power 5 OOC game except for Tennessee, but I believe ND and BYU were exceptions to this rule.
ETA: Missed Arkansas, thanks SoG

Arkansas doesn't, but they got a pass because Michigan backed out on them.

To be fair, UT had tOSU on the schedule for this year and they backed out. If you look at the OOC opponents the Vols have played in the past, it should be pretty easy to give them a pass for their admittedly subpar OOC slate in 2019 given these two facts.

I’d rather we never play one again. It was cool pre playoff, but now we have to go to 3 neutral site games to end the season.
I only went to 1 of our 4 neutral sites last year- Orange Bowl against OU. The atmosphere was atrocious. Worst college atmosphere for a game between good teams I’ve ever attended.
