Good article. Many people do care about college baseball. Look at the crowds at the games. Most 18 year olds would rather play at Dudy Noble, Alex Box, Baum, The Joe etc. than ride a bus for nine hours in an out of the way place in the low A Minor Leagues.

I have a simple solution. Drop the football scholarships from 85 to 76. Add nine scholarships to baseball so that they have 20.7 total. Then at least you can give most players a significant % of a scholarship and hopefully it can supplemented with academic scholarships to cover most of the cost.

Football will still be in good shape. Your annual allotment could still be up to 25 scholarships so that you can make up for attrition due to injury’s, transfers, drop outs etc. If a player suffers a career ending injury, he could remain on scholarship and it would not count against the limit. 76 scholarships would be plenty. That gives you 3 deep at every position plus a few extras.

I would hope not. In addition to the reasons listed, it would also mean that the NCAA would keep the Omaha spot and the Power 5 would have to find another venue for the world series that occupies the stadium for 10-12 days. Rather than assisting on adding scholarships, to me, the onus is on the state like ours where we should match what others are doing to assist in scholarships. Vanderbilt, a private school has an advantage in ways that a multi billion dollar endowment should afford you. States around us help kids get through school with different programs. I don't see it happening anytime soon in Ms as we can't afford the education system that we have. But that's on us.
