1 thing Ive noticed is as bad as we get on Mack, Dylan Moses was just as bad IMO.

He had an AWFUL game @Arkansas.

Linebacker play in 18-19 was the worst since 07-08 at least IMO.

We've had the benifit of not starting linebackers until they were juniors and having them come back as seniors.

Mosley wasn't a world beater as a sophomore either. I ain't worried.

Thus the point of how much better Mack and Moses would have been this year had Mack came back...I am truly convienced another year would have served Mack well!!

Oh well. water under the bridge - next up!

I went to the UL game and pretty much every comment I made about it was, “oh my god the linebackers are completely lost.”

Is anyone besides me willing to admit that we have a ... different quality of players than 09-2012?

No, not me. But the body types were recruit in our defensive front 7 changed immediately after the 2013 Iron Bowl, if not a few months prior.

Im looking more at stuff like alpha dog personalities. Vicious, southern bred attack dogs.

Example:

McClain and Hightower
Tim Williams, Ryan Anderson

Who are the next Williams/Anderson?

Anfernee Jennings has been that Courtney Upshaw/Ryan Anderson dog out there.

He still gets overlooked, even for guys like Terrell Lewis who has barely contributed.

The freshman backer who had a good A day looks like hes got some dog in him.

Edit - In fairness to the players you mentioned they're phenomenal.

Hightower alone has made hug game changing plays in two superbowls.

Jennings is a notch below them IMO.

You seem to be referencing the team as whole in the above quote...

...while referencing one position - linebacker - in the second quote.

I'll agree with you that while we may not have had overtly mean sumbitches at LB the last couple of years, we have had dominant "attack dog' type players all over the field on offense and defense.

I think we've had scores of "attack dogs" since 2012, but many of them were playing other positions than LB. Take a look at any Alabama depth chart since 2012 - there's a few to several dawgs on both sides of the ball each and every year.

It sounds like to me you want to see a specific type of personality/player at LB, and that's fine. But if you can't see that we've had some "attack dogs" all over the field on both sides of the ball since 2012, then I don't know what to say. If Tim Williams is an example of yours, then Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ronnie Harrion, Reuben Foster, Tony Brown, DaRon Payne, Jonathan Allen, Ashawn Robinson, Quinnen Williams, Josh Jacobs, DJ Fluker, Eddie Lacy, Cyrus Kouandjio, Vinnie Sunseri, Landon Collins, Jalston Fowler, Amari Cooper, Ardarius Stewart, and Kenyan Drake are all "attack dogs", among a host of others.

That's fair. Im just worried about the guys who haven't emerged yet. Majority of those guys you listed are from the south, and we've recently recruited a lot more players from other regions where football is on the backburner.

3 if you count him making a solo tackle on Marshawn Lynch on the goaline

Ah, I get it. I didn't realize that Southerner was a focus of your point.

I agree that Saban and Co. needs to get good pedigree, but he's always tried to do that. I'm not worried.

What makes me feel better about this topic is that Saban went back old school a little bit after probably being too new school with the last iteration of the defensive coaching staff. It's an oversimplified way of saying it, but I think most understand. I think a great, dawg-type staff can take some of these kids, regardless of where they are from, and make them hungry and mean. I'm excited.

Dylan supposed to break out this year though? I think I saw a video of him being a leader a while back.

Nah Moses improved. He got better as the year went on. He’s a much better player than Mack. His tackles and TFL stats were higher than Mack’s for a reason.
