I wouldn't go so far as to call the brother fat, I mean he got a weight problem.

What's the guy gonna do? He's Samoan...

Not for an athlete. He's not going to be a Jared Lorenzen.

TBH the staff needs to start limiting his meal options. His breakfast last year was bacon wrapped French toast almost everyday. I know they do a lot to burn calories but with the Somoan genetics he should not be eating stuff like that everyday.

Short answer: No, that's a ridiculous thing to "worry" about.

Longer answer:

No, because...

No, it's not "a lot." Is it over ideal? Possibly. But there's a lot of room between "slightly above ideal" and "a lot."

2) Isn't Tua 6'1"? He's listed as such on our roster.

3) This time of the year is when our players weigh the most - the deep offseason. They'll be slimmer versions of themselves, generally speaking, come September.

4) I'm 6'1" and 235 as of this sentence and do not have a level of excess body fat that would prevent me from playing D1 QB if I had that skillset. Granted, I'm built like a LB in the upper body portion, but the point remains that a human of about 6 feet tall (or a little taller) can carry around about 230 and still be athletic and move well.

Tua, as we can all see, is built thickly in his lower body. This alone is going to put his overall mass, i.e. weight, considerably higher than another QB with the exact same upper body mass.

5) Do some basic research and you'll find copious information about the fact that Samoans have about 20% higher bone density than Europeans (as a reference), and also have a higher muscle mass on average as well. These kinds of genetic differences are huge to this discussion.

6) Why would you want a skinny version of Tua? I think that sounds like a terrible idea. I want him as ready to take a beating while still moving well, and if that means solid/thick Tua is better than skinny Tua, then I'm all for it.

I’m fine with his weight as long as he can still move.

They have been in the 4th qtr program the last 8 weeks. He is definitely not in bad shape. JPW said its a brutal 8 weeks, and the players are in the best shape of the year going into Spring practice.

This might me a stretch but it’s possible that Scott Cochran may have a better handle on this than we do.
