Great game, incredible comeback by State in blizzard conditions.

Texas A&M is a dark maroon. Mississippi State has a red tint. I know this thread is about the snow bowl, but just noticed their colors are distinctly different from each other.

Probably my favorite bowl game for Mississippi State. Obviously makes it even more interesting since Texas A&M ended up joining the SEC. Former Texas A&M head coach Jackie Sherrill led Mississippi State against his former assistant RC Slocum. A&M actually took a 14-0 lead in the game and looked to be in prime position.

The best part of the game is the fact that Mississippi State wore all white uniforms when the snow was pounding for most of the game and the field was covered. And this was in freaking Shreveport Louisiana is the amazing part.

The game goes into OT and in OT, a play that you would expect to happen in the snow happens when State blocks A&Ms XP and returns it back for 2 points. That ended up being the difference as State scored a TD on their next possession and kneeled the xp to win the game by 2.

One of the all time great bowl games. Really was a shame that one team had to lose the game.

As a State fan, it was one of my favorite victory’s ever. I mean we had the all white uniforms w/the white helmets. We looked liked the Finnish army against the Soviet Union in 1940. It was a stroke of genius by Coach Sherrill to wear all white in the snow.

What a game it was, it had a little of everything in it. The blocked PAT that was returned for 2 points felt like it won the game for State even though we still trailed by four points. I remember our girls going crazy like we had won the game and I had to remind them that we still had to score a TD to win it.
Madkin’s TD almost felt anti-climatic even it was the game winner. You just knew it was going to happen.

I bet leaving after the game was epic! One of the best bowl games not involving UGA and pretty meaningless other than it being CFB I can remember. Shreveport ain’t a bad 3 day weekend.....

Another case of R.C. Slocum finding a way to lose.

I was there. It was an awesome scene watching State play in the snow. Leaving was interesting. I happened to be riding with a guy who was a former truck driver(thank God), and it didn't bother him any. What was really interesting was the trip back to Mississippi the next day. I-20 ceme to a halt because of wrecks about 4-5, and everyone would get out of their cars and talk. Most were MSU people, and we met Mario Haggan(LB that played in the NFL), and the Griffiths(Justin a FB and his family) that day.

Wasn’t this the last game of the old millennium /first game of the new millenium ?

Only if you are one of those geeks who insists that the new millenium did not start until 2001. If you are normal, then the Mississippi-Oklahoma bowl game in 1999 was the last game of the old millenium.

It was blind luck. That was the first time in decades that State wore white helmets. Pretty sure the decision to wear all white was made long before anyone thought snow was a possibility.

What is wrong with you? You don't get to decide when a new millennium starts. So you think there was a year 0 or something?

That debate was held 20 years ago, and your side lost. Unless you have some new information to bring to the table, just go sit in the corner with the other geeks.

Did you suddenly 'forget' 'bout the Y2K 'end of the world as we know it' hoopla?
