With the 25 limit, how can Georgia sign 26 this year?

Georgia signed 26 last year, so shouldn't they only be able to sign 25 this year?

to the OP, i think you can just cut players to make up the room? not 100% sure if that's changed. but i think that's the idea.

One of our signees in this class was a 2017 guy (Devonte Wyatt) who spent the Fall semester at Prep school and was enrolled near the end of last December.

Not sure how it works, but that would be my guess.

The ongoing deduction is Wathour will do something similar a recruit from last year did and go Juco for a year to get grades, development, etc. and join the team next season.

There are several scenarios that we've discussed in other threads... none of which are conclusive at this time. I'm sure there will be an article on it at some point.

Keep in mind that the 2017 class may have been full, but 2016 was not... back counting may have accounted for it to some degree...

There is a positive benefit from being unable to count. 25? 26? Who can tell the difference?

Probably people leaving early for the draft along with seniors and early enrollees the count back.

Georgia lost a lot of players to eligibility and the draft. Do the math.

I’m pretty sure the rule is that a team can have a max of 85 on scholarship at any time?

The rule is 85 with a max of 25 per year, however I think the post above is correct regarding the JUCO kids one from 17 and the kid out of Hinesville going that route this year. So it washes. ND signed 27 and Texas and tOSU signed 26 I think

Georgia 26, OSU 26, Texas 27, Notre Dame 27, UCLA 28. Obviously the 25 max per year is impacted by losses due to early departures either to the pros, transfers, medical issues, etc.

I think their point is, nobody fully understands the new rule. Nobody.

However, on writer said that it is not a hard 25 like it was being reported earlier. If you look, though, there were several teams that signed more than 25 players.

What this thread needs is a Steve Spurrier quote...

To be fair, some of us have a pretty good handle on the rule change itself, but you can't know every decision the coaches are making or discussing with recruits, so it leads to speculation. I do think there are people who are answering questions like this that really should just listen in, as they are like the kid in class who has a grasp on basic math trying to explain a calculus problem to everyone... Ends up confusing the topic with unrelated or inaccurate info.
