Fat fricking if, I know

Would it still be a failure of a coaching search, or can you ignore all the hilarity since they got someone worth it in the end?

Get Petrino and be done with it.

Just keep him away from motorcycles and blondes.

Pretty sure when 15 coaches have turned you down, your 16th try doesn't result in a "good hire".

And to think Butch had to be fired mid-season to give them time to pull this off.

Think of the number of “Sure-fire” hires that have occurred this year.

Kelly
Mullen
Jimbo
Frost
?

And even those aren’t sure fire. They’re all gambles. So they could still end up with a good hire. But it will be in spite of themselves, rather than because of themselves.

TN is in a no win situation, maybe forever. Let's say they hire Pruitt. He cannot possibly recruit, in 2-3 years, the volume of talent that it takes to win the East. So UT fans/students will be painting that rock and calling for a new HC. They could hire Jesus and he couldn't win at UT. The unrealistic expectation at UT is that they're somehow a powerhouse because they have a big stadium and can do a checkerboard if everyone wears the right colors. Fact is that CFB has passed UT by. In the past they could recruit nationally based on their former reputation, and they had to in order to field a competitive team. Now they have to rely on TN talent and it's just not there. And they can't even recruit regionally with any success. UT fans better buckle up and get used to 8 wins being their apex. And they better give their next HC 5-7 years to rebuild. Because that's what it's gonna take.

I mean, for fricks sake, they still have a Gruden thread at the top of the UT board on tRant. How fricking stupid can one fan base be?
