How much are our OL woes due to bad coaching?

We had to keep Cristobal on staff because he is an elite recruiter on steroids but even with the addition of Key we are still seeing an OL get steadily worse each year. It is hard to hit on all highly regarded guys working out but it just feels like something is missing. This isn't me blaming the coach it is just asking of anyone thinks our issues are more coaching than talent.

Our guys are big and highly recruited and even if they struggle in pass pro they should still be able to road grade on the ground yet unless they play shitty defenses they can't do it.

Is it because teams stack the box? Is it a lack of passing game? Our passing suffers because they don't give Hurts a clean pocket to throw from. Is it bad evals? Are our guys overrated?

Are we sitting better players on the bench because they are younger?

Veteran preference.

Less talented, but have been taught to make less avoidable errors. Younger players don't have that conditioned in them yet. Stupid mistakes are easily preventable that way.

Hell, one of them hasn't learned not to run on the field and celebrate after a TD by taking his helmet off...

Offensive Line play is bad in football in general. NFL and College. I blame it on the practice rules.

Maybe it is that the DL in the SEC are just animals.

I can honestly say that I have no idea. Offensive line technique and stuff is well out of my knowledge base.

I actually thought the OL got better with Hassenauer in there. Wonder if we could switch Pierschbacher to RG?

Leatherwood.

That really hurt us. Could have been a killer against a great team.

I think our O-line "woes" are greatly exaggerated. We've run the ball very well this year, especially early. The times we've had trouble running are when other teams load the box because they don't fear our downfield passing. Then, on passing downs they blitz, and we either don't get rid of the ball fast enough, don't pick up the blitz, don't check to another play, etc.

I'm not saying the O-line is faultless, but I think they're on par with most we've had.

I tend to agree if you look at our OLs over the long haul...but I think most of our fans compare our OLs to the recent ones we've had with multiple All-Americans, not to mention Outland and Rimington award winners, since 2011, with the likes of Warmack, Jones, Fluker, Kouandjio, Cam Robinson, and Ryan Kelly. Some of our O-lines have been really special...that O-line in 2012 could be Bama's best ever...
