Naw..
Yeah, no. Until proven otherwise, at this point in time he's better than everyone not named Saban. Only the ACC? Ok...he won more in the ACC than Jimbo did. Kiffin may be on an upward trajectory and maybe he'll be in that conversation one day. Leach, Heupel, Harsin, Lea, Holtz, Pittman, Drinkwitz...why don't we let them actually win something before we lump Dabo in with them.

I think Brian Kelly would do well at LSU. Or even here, honestly...

If I had to choose right now, I'd have to go with Mario as Nick's replacement. I think his temperament and focus on the "process" and recruiting would be the best fit. I also think he's be willing to bring in the best coordinators and let them do their job.
I'm just not sold on Dabo and not sure I trust Kiffen to keep it together.

I'll tell you why I'm a hard no on Mario. Sure, he's a good recruiter. But lots of guys are. That isn't good enough.
Mario lost to TWO teams with losing records last year. This year, after winning that big game at Ohio State, he turns around and loses to a Stanford team that's 3-9. Imagine him coming here and beating Texas A&M in a big game on the road...and then losing to Vandy three weeks later. That's basically what Mario did. Then his team gets manhandled and demolished 38-7 by Utah.
Mario, with all his talent, has had 4 horrendous losses in the last two years...three to teams with losing records...Stanford, Cal, and Oregon State. He has shown a propensity the last two years to not have his team physically or mentally ready to play. Those losses are unforgiveable. One...maybe. One a year...maybe. Four in two years? Hell no. It would be like coming here and suddenly and inexplicably starting to lose to a South Carolina or Vanderbilt every year. Arizona State was 5-7 in 2018, yet somehow Mario found a way to lose to them by 29.
And before you say Saban almost lost to Florida, Arkansas and LSU and Auburn, Mario has had those also. Scoring with 5:00 left this year to beat a 4-7 Cal team, for example.
Maybe Mario can get his obvious deficiencies corrected and win something big by the time Saban retires. Otherwise...hell no.

I’d take Dabo in a heartbeat, and you’re crazy if you wouldn’t.
Yep. This confirms my "frick Dabo" stance.

I'd have said that a little over a year ago, and I did say it. His star has lost some of its luster. I need to see him turn things back around
Looks like Venebles is finally taking a HC job, at Oklahoma. If so, Dabo is in deep shite. Lack of staff turnover has been a huge reason why he's maintained success. He already needs new blood at OC. If he's replacing both coordinators, Clemson is gonna have issues next year.

I get all of that but who is the coach you'd get that hasn't had the issues you mentioned?
Mario would pull better players and coaches to Bama than he has at Oregon.

People hate Dabo for their own reasons, but when was the last time he lost to a team that finished 3-9? I'll tell you when. Never.
Dabo has lost one game...in 2017...to a team that finished with a losing record. Once, in a 13 year career. Mario has done it three times in the last two years. And no, I'm not necessarily saying I want Dabo. But you asked the question. No, Dabo hasn't had that issue...not by a long shot. Kiffin hasn't at Ole Miss either.

Your point being...?
The last three years, Mario has far and away had the best class west of the Rockies.
Stanford's last 4 classes? #43, 21, 19, and 40.
Oregon State's last three before that loss? #54, 52, and 70.
Cal's? #39, 43, and 42.
Mario somehow found a way to lose to ALL of those teams the last two years, in spite of having recruiting classes ranked #6, 11, 7, and 13 the last four years.
Some Bama fans seem to thing being a good recruiter is the be-all and end-all to being an excellent coach. It isn't, not by any stretch of the imagination. Any really good coach will be able to recruit very well to Alabama. Recruiting good players and then being unable to motivate them to perform every Saturday is absolutely unacceptable. Laying multiple turds every year to the South Carolinas and Vandys and Missouris of the conference is beyond unacceptable.

Agreed on Mario. He talks like Saban, recruits like Saban, and seems to have learned a lot from Saban, but for whatever reason his teams have an ugly tendency to either not show up at all or quit when they fall behind. I don't know why, but it happens once or twice pretty much every year. I don't think a bunch of #1-5 ranked recruiting classes like he could sign here vs. the #6-10 classes he's signing at Oregon is going to change any of that.

As long as we show up to the airport like LSU fans.
