Looks like this award is biased toward upperclassmen. Maybe they figure the freshmen and sophomores will get their chance?

As a note, the guy from Colorado State with 84 catches...that's impressive from the sheer number but makes you wonder, do they have no receivers? Odd also that he has only 1 TD. (Bowers has what, 8 receiving TDs and 1 rushing TD?)

Also, Bowers is likely going to break the UGA record for TE single season receiving if he catches about 20 yards worth against Tech.

If Bowers isn't 1st Team Freshmen All America, something is wrong with the people who make those decisions.

Brock is a true freshman, Jalen Wydermyer is a senior with several years of impressive TE numbers and will be a top3 round draft pick. I can understand why they would give it to him over Brock with those numbers.

Brock will get his Mackey at some point, don't worry.

Bow wow wow yippie yo yippie yay!

I'd rather have the true freshman Mackey semifinalist than the senior finalist, to be honest.

Hijack time-

People on insider boards are saying Washington should/will transfer. They are sad he didn't get any catches or targets vs ChasSo.

Opinions?

Are any of those other finalists freshman? The only reason for this I can think of is they don’t want to give it to a Freshman that will probably be up for the award the next few years.

Similar to Herschel getting snubbed for the Heisman in 1980.

Agreed this is bullshite……but just a guess.

Yeah that's bullshite. He'd be stupid to leave. Fitzpatrick is a senior, no?

That would be a big loss. When he's out there in a two TE set, it's a thing of beauty.

Still, going to be hard to get the ball around to everyone next season. If the WRs are healthy for a change, that room will be loaded. Plus Bowers. But hate to lose a 6-7, 270 lb. monster mismatch like Washington.

Too bad he can't be a two-way player. Could Washington rush a QB?

We aren't exactly light in that category either.

I hope Washington doesn’t leave.

Fitzpatrick is a junior. We also have a solid TE recruit committed.

TBH I would feature Washington for Tech game and back off Brock. Give other teams more to worry about.

My conspiracy theory is that washington goes off this postseason.

I think bama did that one year (while kirby was still there) with their 5 star tight end.

He isn’t getting targets in the passing game like he probably should. Look at how we’ve involved Bowers and then look at Washington. He’s being used as a glorified 6th OL when he is a matchup nightmare for literally every defensive player on the field.

Don’t blame him for being disgruntled, blocking isn’t going to get him into the NFL so much as pass catching will.

They did this twice against Clemson. OJ Howard was criminally underused in both 2015 and 2016 until they played Clemson and unleashed him.

I don't know, he gets used in blocking a lot because he's damn good at it. He's only a soph. He gets plenty of time, lost alot this year due to foot injury. He plays in an offense that uses TE's more than almost anyone in the country, and it's a winning program with perennial NC hopes. We all know, especially him, there's plenty of plays drawn up specifically for him, just haven't had to use them much yet this year. That could change quickly.

In that sense, it would be kind of dumb to transfer.

Yeah but think about it from his perspective: he has a teammate who is breaking records at the position and Georgia isn’t the only show in town who throws to a TE and competes at a high level.

Point being, get him the ball or he’s going to walk and I won’t necessarily blame him if he does

I think he'd be dumb to transfer this year, his missed time is largely due to early injury, not necessarily because he's being overlooked. If he continues to not get targets next season, I could see a better justification to transfer.

He was on the field he should have gotten targets especially against southern. Once again Kirby will flub up a position situation and cause us to lose an important player. Next year we will be crying over TE depth.

Good grief. He isn't going anywhere.

Wouldn’t go that far. Bowers and Delp alone are more than most teams have. Seither and Goede have also gotten mop up minutes. Fitz can stay an extra year under Covid rules if he wants to
