West Coast in the SEC

Would Harsin's west coast tendencies work with even an average amount of talent?
Serious question. The answer may be "no", but we are all (rightly) accusing Harsin of trying to make west coast decisions in the most brutally competitive conference in the nation. From my perspective, with the amount of talent Auburn should have right now, our offense would actually be successful enough to warrant some of the decisions Harsin and Co. have been making.
(still not the 4th down play-action BS)
The big problem, obviously, is getting the appropriate talent on the field. You can't, as we've seen, be aggressive in the west coast style sense and have success with the talent we have on the field in the SEC. I'm still giving Harsin a year or two to get his recruiting legs under him in the SEC, but it certainly doesn't look good right now.

You can't expect a change in one year. It could work but he needs to get his own players in. That will take a couple years.

He could start by bringing in different coordinators. Mason sucks. Bobo has a good playbook but cant call plays worth a damn in the second half of games

Yes. And this is Bobo’s offense.
Get used to it. He doesn’t scheme to line up and trick you. He schemes to line up and beat you.
If he gets the talent we are going to be good

And there lies the biggest issue with what Auburn is doing right now and going down the road.

This is the bigger issue than what's happening on the field. If he was doing well in recruiting right now you could live with what happened the last two weeks.
Unfortunately, as things stand it's only going to get significantly worse before it gets better.

What do you mean? If we don’t learn to line up and whoop our opponent we will never have stability in the sense that we can line up and beat an opponent any day of the week. Instead, finesse football trying to outtrick the opponent will need all of the stars aligned at home and some dumb luck.

With that style of offense you are going to need to line up and just beat the defense. Its a great concept if you can recruit the players that are better than the guys across the line from them.
Do you feel Harsin can recruit the players he needs to beat LSU, UGA and Bama up front? If so , then it is not a issue.
That is one of the advantages of the spread style offense. It allows a team with not quite the talent to compete with a program that may have a little more.
Not dumb luck. Just a scheme that works against a more talented defense

quote:If you run it like TN this year you also can call plays to keep the D on their heels and go fast by calling the next play based on how the WRs, TEs, ended up on the last play...i.e. if 3 WR end up on one side he calls a play that puts them on that side of the ball for the next play so they can go fast and keeps the D on their heels.

I’m under no impression that we will be able to recruit to move our offense with purpose any time soon. I just don’t see any bend in Bobo’s scheme that allows for the flexibility around talent that the spread accounts for.

At the end of the day no offensive scheme works if you don't have talent. No scheme works if you don't execute properly. And as every coach has said if 10 guys are doing the right thing and 1 screws up it can mess the entire play up.
I don't know yet if we have weak coaches or weak minded players. I don't ever remember a team loafing under our previous coach. I saw players that don't get many snaps loafing on some plays last week, on back to back plays ( Zeke Walker).
This is a broken team. Maybe Harsin can rally the team back next year with more influx of players he recruited.
But based purely on talent and recruiting bleak times lay ahead for this staff.
Also on the West coast offense. We run a few west coast plays but aren't a west coast offense. We are more of a pro spread.

Did you see players loafing under Gus?
Don't care if you believe it or not that's one thing that didn't happen under Gus. They never quit in a game or on a play. As I've mentioned before I probably watch every game 2-3 times after the live game. I don't have the all 22 that coaches have but I can definitely catch things that most don't catch in real time.
I was actually calling for more DL rotation last week and specifically called for more Zeke Walker to play so I paid attention when he got in the game. It was late in the 3rd Quarter on back to back run plays USCe run a split zone on back to back plays and Walker had backside pursuit and could have possibly tackled the running back for about a 3 yard gain. I think both went for 8-10. That's the difference in winning and losing my friend.
And if it bs you spewed is about recruiting then wake the frick up. Stop sugar coating a shite result of it's a covid year, it's his first year, recruiting is about relationships blah blah blah. It's Auburn University!! We ain't fricking Troy or La Monroe. It was cute in August. Now it'd just down right dreadful.

Seth Williams was a loafer. The 3* RB that started for us from lafayette was a loafer as well.
Garner kicked loafers off the team. Coe. The DT that liked to clown

What’s interesting is I just had an argument with somebody because he said I was being condescending when I called him buddy.
Looking at your post, he might be right and my Mind be blown

Seth loafed I agree. Boobie didn’t loaf he just wasn’t that good. Coe didn’t play because he loafed.
Zeke Walker I wasnt the only one. Just mentioned him because I was calling for him to play more. Plus with Seth you are talking about a 60 play per game player as opposed to one who get 10ish snaps a game. Not that it’s an excuse but it does happen sometimes.
