Good
- The neutral site game era of Alabama football is officially over
- Coming out hitting on all cylinders on both sides of the ball
- Backs running with anger
- Bryce Young's complete command of the offense, ability to maneuver the pocket and touch on throws
- Jameson Williams is a dude - he runs good routes and is elite straight line fast. JoJo Earle doing nice things as well.
- Cameron Latu - frickin awesome. Another great story of a guy who worked his arse off, played multiple positions and finally got some success.
- Ditto Trey Sanders
- Defensive front 7 pressure and run fits were fantastic
- Defensive backs being in position to make a play on almost every passing attempt
- Defense giving up very few big plays
- Jaylen Moody coming onto the field after having what I can only imagine was a super disheartening last 4 months and immediately showing he'd stayed ready - TFL and INT. Felt great for him.
- Will Reichard is the greatest player in Alabama history

Bad
- Punting, the few we saw, was still not great
- For as good a game as Bryce played, he definitely missed a few open reads. Mac spoiled us last year (I'm not sure he missed more than 1-2 reads the entire season), but we had guys running wide open down the seam a few times that were missed.
- Offensive Line was good not great, especially in pass protection. Got beat up the middle some and didn't do a great job picking up all the blitzes.
- Running game was solid, hard nosed, but not much explosiveness.
- In general, outside of the long TD to Williams, not a real explosive offensive day. I think that had to do with the plan, the new players, etc, so not really bad per se (lets be honest, making a "bad" category for this game was tough )

Ugly
- Chris Allen injury. Awful, just awful. Feel so bad for him. Luckily, we have some young talented pups who can step in, but just feel awful for Allen.
- Roydell Williams fumbling on one of his few carries is not going to help his chances in a loaded RB room.
- Holden's drop, same story
- I want to break things when we shut it down and just run RB power straight into run blitzes the last 10 minutes of a blowout.
- Billingsley returning kicks again. This is just Saban fvcking with all of us. It's his own little inside joke.

All in all, about as good a script as you could write for game 1. We came out and crushed their souls immediately and then stepped on their throats and crushed some more.

Looking forward to 2 weeks where we can get the OL more comfortable, rest up To'o To'o and get Agiye Hall, Jacorey Brooks, JoJo Earle, Dallas Turner, Chris Braswell, Drew Sanders and Kendrick Blackshire a lot of reps.

biggest disappointment for me outside of your take is the coaches not letting our backup QB run the offense. Did we get many first downs with him in the game? He needs real life game snaps in case our starter goes down

Agreed. I’m not saying come in and sling it. But don’t put him in third and long every time. Make the opponent continue to defend.

It's probably my biggest frustration and intellectual argument with the Saban philosophy and his implementation of it.

We preach to win every play, every play has a life of its own, etc etc.......but when the 2nd team offense comes in we kneecap them and basically tell them to kill the clock and run straight into what the defense is doing.

I swear he may do it to create the illusion that we didnt play well in the 2nd half

That's the thing - I know there is a very specific reason for it. I just need to know what the hell it is

If you take him at his word it's because he doesn't want to further embarrass a beaten opponent.

I do believe he feels that way.

I also think that if something is negatively effecting his organization he ain't doing it because of some outside factor.

So I need to see the spreadsheet that calculates the negative/positive and comes out to a "it's ok to do this"

Good: much mentioned and Trey Sanders. Moves faster than he appears to be on screen and has great vision.

Bad, but not terrible: the timing and pass placement on the wide receiver screens were just a bit off. The play has been very successful the last few years with Tua and Mac leading the receiver so he was running down hill. The receivers had to stop to catch the ball almost every time the play was ran against the U, making the play much less productive. Picky, yeah, but something to work on.

How soon does Trey Sanders start getting more reps after B Rob ? He looked great yesterday. McClellan looked good but Trey simply looks like a better player and could be poised for a big season.

My favorite by far:

I’ve been pulling for him and hope he shows out.

It was awesome that he came on the to the field and immediately just started making plays. Such an easy guy to root for.

Moody should get a lot of playing time this week. Alabama is fortunate to have him.

That screen play - Miami must have studied a lot of film for it and little else. They were ready (I think I counted) all 3 times we ran it. Perfect defense every time

Jameson hitting 23 mph on a 94 yd TD pass was a pretty nice debut :)

Lots to be happy about. Lots that need to get cleaned up.

Bryce Young is that dude. Ball comes out a touch high in the middle of the field. His pocket awareness is unbelievable and goes through progressions like he's 30 tho. The fumble was on him, he got greedy. If he hands that ball to BRob there was nobody home on the left side. He'll be fine with a few more games under his belt.

Gonna give Owens a C+. Was a bit loose in pass pro but gonna cut him some slack since it's opening day and he played out of position. Great block on the Sanders TD.

HOT TAKE ALERTT!! Earle is the best receiver in the group. Ok, I'll dial it back. Earle has the most most homerun potential in the group. I'm talking guy who can turn 5 into 50. I really like him. He just isn't completely sure what he's doing yet.

Anderson is the headliner but HT makes this defense work. He processes 10x faster than Moses. And that's what the defense has been missing. Looked ok after the injury. Hopefully they can shelve him for Mercer and get Moody some work.

Drew Sanders looks like a huge downgrade from Allen. I'm hoping it was just nerves. I'd like him to be a lot more aggressive particularly rushing the passer. He looked like he was trying not to make a mistake rather than just playing football. Mercer is just what he needs to build confidence. I'll be curious if they stick with him in the base group or kick Eboigbe outside and play Mathis inside with Dale. Probably depends on the opponent.

Jayln Armour-Davis is sneaky good. I thought he had the best day in the secondary. Reminds me of Levi Wallace.
