Anyone surprised at how close Alabama-Auburn has been?

Alabama has been historically regarded as the best college football program ever yet only holds a 10 game lead over the Barn all time.
It's possible that Aubie could hold the lead over Alabama currently had they hired Saban instead of vice versa.
Crazy to think about.

And Auburn was stupid enough to get rid of the only SEC coach that can consistently beat Saban.. Saban’s walk to the championship just got easier..

Sorry our goal isn’t to just beat Saban.
We’ll leave goals like that to the shittier schools like Texas

Malzahn was like 0-14 against LSU, Georgia, and Bama on the road.

Not as surprised as how close lsux-Tennessee has been... I mean, Tennessee is the second most tradition-rich program in the SEC (and second winningest) yet they only hold a 10 game lead over lsux all time.
Crazy to think about.

All kidding aside. When Auburn is a good team, they are tough to beat at Jordan-Hare.

Yeah, it is an interesting quirk in cfb history. It has the look of OU v. Okie Lite from afar but it has actually been competitive.
1. Didn’t play between 1907 and 1948 when Alabama would’ve probably won 2 out of every 3 games.
2. Auburn has done .500 or better in 4 decades since the resumption of the series: 1940s (1-1), 1950s (5-5), 1980s (6-4), 2000s (7-3)
3. Alabama has done .500 or better in 5 decades since the resumption of the series: 1940s (1-1), 1960s (8-2), 1970s (8-2), 1990s (7-3), 2010s (6-4)
So on the balance, Alabama really slammed down hard in this series under Bryant but they’ve been less dominant since Bryant. What can you say other than Bryant, being an alum and former player, kinda put a bigger emphasis on the rivalries. He cared more about beating Tennessee and Auburn every year than playing for mythical national titles of that era.

Auburn was superior to Alabama overall in the 1980s, dangerous in the 1990s, and superior again from 2000-2007.
Auburn had alot of great teams that just managed to not win a national title, either due to a random close loss (1988) or bad luck (2004, 1983)
Since 1982, they have been a great program, and when their coach falters (Tuberville, Chizik) they fire them immediately
They also managed to beat Saban 4 times in the 2010s

AU has fired 3 coaches who have beaten Saban.
