Nick Saban had 17 losses from 2008 to 2020.
(16 of 17 teams had a Sagarin Rating > 88)

6 Losses to National Champions
105.35 2016 NC Clemson
104.88 2019 NC LSU
103.16 2018 NC Clemson
100.81 2014 NC Ohio State
98.74 2008 NC Florida
98.06 2010 NC Auburn

8 Losses to Teams in the Final AP 2-10
100.30 2011 LSU (AP 2)
93.31 2012 Texas A&M (AP 5)
91.76 2013 Auburn (AP 2)
91.45 2017 Auburn (AP 10)
91.37 2008 Utah (AP 2)
91.16 2010 LSU (AP 8)
90.03 2015 Ole Miss (AP 10)
88.08 2013 Oklahoma (AP 6)

3 Losses to Teams in the Final AP 11-25
89.94 2014 Ole Miss (AP 17)
88.57 2019 Auburn (AP 14)
81.11 2010 South Carolina (AP 22)

Bottom line: You have to really fricking good to beat Alabama, and then hope that it is your lucky day. I knew Saban was great, but this is ridiculous.

EDIT:
Saban’s Record vs Sagarin Final Rating

24-14 vs Top 10

48-3 vs Teams 11-30
2013 OU 12th
2019 Auburn 13th
2010 South Carolina 25th

90-0 vs Everyone else..

And people wonder why Alabama fans are confident. I know it’s going to end one day. But it ain’t over yet.

Yep...of those 17 losses, the only head-scratcher based on talent/final ranking was 2010 South Carolina. Stephen Garcia was probably so intoxicated that day he doesn't even remember the game.

The kicker for me is when you compare similar top programs to Alabama over the same time period.

Georgia recruits better than anyone not named Alabama and has been blown out at least once (sometimes twice) every year since Kirby arrived, and even lost to unranked SC at home.

Ohio State got absolutely murdered by unranked Purdue and Iowa while Urban Meyer was still there. Their recruiting is top 3-5 every season, as well.

Clemson has lost to unranked Syracuse, Pitt, etc.

Point is, Saban and 'Bama are on another level entirely. The Tide may lose every now and then, but rarely is it anything short of a perfect game/miracle performance by the other team.

Alabama 29 rushes for 36 yards

That’s impressive D by South Carolina.

Alabama fans don't get enough credit for not being asshats. Can you imagine some of these fanbases if they had that kind of run?

Funny thing is that is the majority of ranked teams they played during the season. It is easy to win a title when you get a mulligan every year.

Now you’ve done it.

I’ll have you know we are without a doubt the biggest asshats on the planet.

Enjoy the ride. I'd be more happy for you if I didn't have the most arrogant Alabama fan coworker back in the '90s.

Hopefully Alabama will recognize that there will likely be a drop off after Saban leaves and that doesn't mean the next coach is a failure. The next guy might be the next Saban but he probably will have some growing pains getting there.

Perhaps I’ll analyze their wins next.

You've been awarded an SEC Rant brownie point for not stooping to include the '07 season's vacates as losses. Some have to stand on principle and the NCAA teat and declare that Saban only won 2 games in '07.

This is the number of games SEC teams have won and lost by more than 14 points during that time, 2008 to 2020.

Alabama 138 to 1(Clemson NC game)

LSU 74 to 15

Georgia 72 to 17

Florida 71 to 23

Texas A&M 53 to 25

Auburn 54 to 29

Tennessee 45 to 43

Might as well have because it meant just as much to them and to college football that season, really. If was a much more riveting game than the championship game that season against ND.

Manziel ripped a couple of fat lines at halftime and it was showtime in the 2nd half.
