Arkansas historically only played Texas schools, Ole Miss and LSU as far as the SWC days go.

Arkansas has played:

Texas 78 times
A&M 77
Ole Miss 67
LSU 66

Texas and Texas A&M are the two schools Arkansas has played most in its history, and that appears that it will never change given recent events.

Arkansas plays Texas this season, so if the Longhorns join football next year, they'll perpetually remain the team Arkansas has played more than any other school.

Love to play Arkansas often. Good program, easy drive for both. Be a lot of fun.

In NWA, we get all the Eastern Okie poors. You hardly ever meet a real live alumnus of the University of Oklahoma over here.

I don't hate the state of Oklahoma.

Those Oklahoma City girls are fine, and Tulsa's quite a town....

you'll see quite a few Oklahoma shirts in Fort Smith

Fort Smith culturally is Oklahoma. It was the last bastion of civilization on the edge of Indian Territory. It's very much an "Old West" town historically.

Fort Smith is not considered part of "Northwest Arkansas" anymore than Russellville is, though. NWA is a metro. Ft Smith is its own thing.

Piggy should be one of our 3 perm games. UT and Misery being the other two.

Pretty much the same as Mizzou before they joined the SEC. And while we had played LSU a lot before '92, the last game was the 1965 Cotton Bowl.

Arkansas is just Kansas with a couple extra letters.

A rivalry takes some back and forth. OU would own Arkansas every time they play.

1978 orange bowl. 31-6 Arkansas over Oklahoma. #1 Texas had just got the crud beat out of them in the cotton bowl, Oklahoma heavy favorites to win and take national championship. Arkansas coach had suspended 3 players that scored 78% of our points that year.

Every time?

I watched the game by the way, yes I am old.

Btw, Fort Smith is the heaviest manufacturing center in Arkansas. Lot of “good ole boys” t shirt fans from Arkansas work there, reason you see the shirts.

I have lived both in Fort Smith and Fayetteville (Dallas too). Everyone is different, I prefer Fort Smith. If I was 20 living on daddy’s money (I never did) I might pick nw Arkansas.

We stopped playing Ole Miss for 20 years because of a controversial field goal that Arkansas fans said didn't go through the uprights, Ole Miss fans said it was good.

This led to a brawl in the stadium.

Ole Miss/Arkansas is underrated from a hate standpoint. Neither side wants to admit it, but there's definitely some hate there.

Lots of weird, fricked-up games between the two.

Playing a Darrell Royal Texas team was hard enough.

I think both schools tried to avoid each other as both are good to spoil the others chances of a title.

A lot of fights happened in the parking lots between both schools. Had they continued playing then it would be a bigger game than State could ever muster.

Hate to be that guy but he was touring around NWA too before he went to Fort Smith

Two things, Fort Smith isn’t NWA, it’s just Western Arkansas. It also shares a bridge with Oklahoma so there is a reason why there are a lot of OU fans.

How about the ‘87 Orange Bowl?

Or how about the 2002 Cotton and your 50 total yards of offense?

Yeah, but we played them several times right before we joined.
