I'm not sure he would leave either. But, it's not like it's some crazy notion. I guarantee he would listen.

I don't even really want him to be the coach at LSU. He's not in my top 3.

I agree LSU is the school that cares the most so it's hard to turn down

Almost like the ND of CBB

He's a pretty solid coach. Florida doesn't have the baseball tradition that a lot of schools have and he's done a great job. Pitching wise he's obviously Excellent as well which is the key in today's baseball

LSU could do much worse

Obviously. I think I see him as a coach that could win one more title at LSU. He's had basically all of the same advantages at Florida that he would have at LSU. I'm looking for a little bit younger guy like Vitello that's on the come up that could possibly win multiple titles.

If O'Sullivan falls through, Dave Van Horn is next on the list?

This is the third time this week on this board I have noticed an Arkansas fan float the idea of LSU wanting DVH. He's almost as old as Mainieri - half the career wins, a fraction of the postseason success.... I mean, just sign Mairieri to an extension if you're gonna do that.

RIGHT...

I'm talking about if you could choose between the Final Four and the CWS, and a realistic shot at either.

Most major universities would think the CWS is nice, but would give their collective left nut for a Final Four run. The "good baseball schools" in the SEC, Florida included, want/expect their baseball programs to 'compete'.

Let's rephrase that question- you can only have Football and ONE other Men's program. At LSU, there's a good chance that is baseball. You might see that at Vandy, and maybe Arizona State, Oregon State. Maybe TCU.

Tell us why Sully would rather stay at Florida instead of going to LSU then.

I'm not. I'm saying some personal stuff may have him wanting out of Gainesville. I'm sure the money helps.

If there's any truth to the rumors I've read, that stuff is messed up

Well, Manieri has coached 9 more years than Van Horn first of all. So, trying to compare their win totals is bullshite first of all.
Second, no he wouldn’t make at most a lateral move, if not a step down at this point.
See, when Skip was dominant in the 90’s , not everyone was making a huge investment in college baseball. Once it was discovered it could turn a profit, everyone made that commitment. That alone has been the major change in the past 15 plus years. It suddenly became much more crowded. It’s no longer easy. Where is Wichita State, Oklahoma State, Cal State Fullerton etc. from the old days?
The funny part I just heard watching the Ole Miss/ Vandy game when discussing Manieris’ retirement was that they were discussing him following Bertman; he didn’t. Smoke Lavell did. Wonder why they don’t address that ?

The Smoke hire made the Ed O hire look like we hired Bill Belichick

IIRC Skip handpicked him

DVH won't be mentioned in any coaching searches ever. Period. It's a well known fact he's retiring at Arkansas. It's kind of pointless to even argue it or mention it.

Yes, right now, it would be a step down. This is 2021 not 1991.

I just looked, DVH has 1289 wins in season 31. At that travel rate in season 39 that would be 1618 total wins. So, he would eclipse Maneiri in win total.
