What’s the criteria? Is it athletics, academics, or both. What are your thoughts? Do you want dumb jocks that don’t care about an education after sports? Smart kids that are just so so in athletics? How about both? I’d say a combination of both.

Rankings

How the SEC schools rank among National Universities when you combine academics and athletics.

Vanderbilt University: 14 (tie) EAST
University of Florida: 30 (tie) EAST
University of Georgia: 47 (tie) EAST
Texas A&M University: 66 (tie) WEST
Auburn University: 97 (tie) WEST
University of Tennessee: 112 (tie) EAST
University of South Carolina: 118 (tie) EAST
University of Missouri: 124 (tie) EAST
University of Kentucky: 133 (tie) EAST
University of Alabama: 143 (tie) WEST
Louisiana State University—Baton Rouge: 153 (tie) WEST
University of Arkansas: 160 (tie) WEST
University of Mississippi: 160 (tie) WEST
Mississippi State University: 206 (tie) WEST

This makes it look like the East is actually the better division. Is this fake news?

You should follow the Rufus Harris plan.

Who cares about academics?

West by a mile.

Athletics wise - it's cyclical

Back in the 90's East was dominant especially in football with Fla Tenn and UGA

Than Saban came along and revived LSU and now has Bama up there every year and Auburn has had some special seasons with A&M making a move.

This is a weird post. You’re trying to combine academics and athletics and it’s just strange

By the downvotes I can clearly see that I’m well on my way to setting a record. Perhaps I’m on to something and it goes against everything that people know is true.

It’s ok to be wrong fellas.

well, this is a sports board.

I don't think there is any danger that SECRant will ever be confused with a higher education forum.

We can all pretend that isn’t the case at every school besides Vanderbilt

Or we can be honest.

Is the West or East the best division?

Best is a superlative used to compare three or more things.

Better is comparative, as in a relationship of two things.

You must have attended a West division college.

Are you really trying to say that the athletes at the higher rated academic schools are smarter than the ones at the lower rated schools? Because, other than Vandy, they’re all recruiting the same players. There’s not a highly ranked player at Alabama that wouldn’t have been accepted at Florida or Georgia too, the only difference being they are more likely to graduate from Alabama.

You must be very confused. 3 teams from the West have won national championships since 2010. Two of those have played for multiple national championships.

Remind me again how many times teams from the East have played for such an award since then? 1? In 2017 when UGA played in the title game?

It isnt even close no matter how you try and twist the facts
