Valdosta fired a good coach just to hire him. They are getting what they deserve.

While they definitely did, and still do, recruit, a lot of that has to do with the zoning of the high schools in Hoover. Most of your higher income areas zone for Spain Park. Even though Hoover has about 3x as many students as Spain Park, they won't rezone to even it out a bit. Why? You know why.

Yeah, no.

There are extremely affluent areas in both zones, and Hoover's predominate zip code has a similar median income ($91,323) to Spain Park's ($98,780).

It's not 3x, or even 2x. Out of about 4,500 students total, it's much closer to 60% at Hoover and 40% at Spain Park.

And they literally rezoned two years ago.

Although they don't have the history and hardware that Hoover does, Spain Park does very well in athletics.

So whatever you're insinuating, it's just incorrect.

Back in the day, Valdosta had a legend for its football coach: Wright Bazemore. If he's still alive, I wonder what Bazemore thinks about them hiring the likes of Probst for the program Bazemore built into a perinnial powerhouse.

If the deposition is true, this isn't accurate. According to the witness, they fired the coach because he was white. According to his testimony, Propst wasn't on their radar. They had a guy in mind who's apparently a successful coach and black. According to the witness that guy came in, saw what a shaitshow it was there, and said no way. After he balked several other candidates withdrew for either the same reason or because of Propst sabotaging the search. In the words of the witness, it got down to where Propst was "the last man standing."

If the testimony of this witness is proven true, they aren't going to be getting what they deserve until they write the old coach a really big check, several people lose their positions, and they don't get to participate in any post seasons for a long time.

Valdosta was pretty dumb for hiring him.

Bazemore coached at VHS from 1943-1971. He died in 1999 at age 82.

I lived in Valdosta from '69-74, right as he was ending his career. Those last couple of teams were powerhouses. Just ran roughshod over every team they played.

That said, Bazemore was no saint when it came to recruiting. It was pretty much understood that any exceptional athlete in region could be convinced to 'move' to Valdosta in order to be eligible. It was just a lot easier to get away with in those days.

They also got Jameis to buy his family a house in Hoover zone so that his little brother will be there in a few years. My son plays against him now on the middle school level and the kid has talent. Will be interesting to watch.

That is not recruiting.
Have you stopped to think that Jameis and his family maybe wanted more for his brother and Hoover would provide that in athletics and education? Plus it's a bonafide move regardless which is perfectly legal and ethical.

Hoover, MB & HTHS has been known to recruit, but this isn't it.

Hewitt is the biggest recruiting school in Birmingham now. Thompson has replaced Hoover as the top dog.
Spain Park has never won a title in football.

Circa 2006, I think, Hoover was the then-No. 1 team in the country, and No. 6 John Curtis rallied from a 14-0 first quarter deficit to win, behind Joe McKnight's 200 yards or so of total offense.

People I know still talk about Joe McKnight in that game, saying that he had one of the best overall performances of any high school athlete that they've ever seen.

it was suspected at Hoovah the same thing was going on. I have relatives who live there and went to Hoovah.

It was more than suspected. It was pretty widely known around town he and certain boosters were setting up parents with jobs and facilitating them moving to apartments in Hoover. One way he differed was he was getting a lot of those kids to transfer in while they were in middle school.

At one time every apartment complex in the Hoover City School district was zoned for Hoover High. I think a few are now zoned for Spain Park.

The reason all those apartments were in the Hoover zone is because Spain Park controlled the BOE and did not want those type people going to Spain Park.
Apartment people were not good enough to go to Spain Park.

hoover recruited but idk why you assume the racial percentage tells that. Hoover would have a huge black population football team or not.

I thought it was funny a few years ago when Hoover schools tried to do away with bus service over "budget concerns." They could not have been any more transparent with that proposal.

That was Spain Park/Greystone wanting to rid their school of undesirables aka minorities, single parent homes and poor white folks. They only want those type kids if than can run a 4.4 forty and a 3 star better.

What's the old Native American legend about the boy that cared for a rattlesnake and still got bit? The snake told the boy after biting him, 'you knew what I was when you picked me up.'

Dude’s scum. Should be coaching at Auburn.
If he could guarantee being .500 with Alabama, they'd hire him a new york second. With Petrino as his offensive coordinator. And Sandusky on defense.
