Hell, I must've gotten behind on the thread. I thought it was something new.

Christen Miller - Have to fight off the competition, but still think we're in the driver's seat.

Darris Smith - may need him to have a great close to his senior year with regards to qualification, but sounds like staff is committed to finding a path if we run into any issues... eg. Wyatt/Walthour

Dillon Bell - Seems like we're still the choice here... hopefully stays that way.

Jordan James - saw update here that he's getting pursuit from other teams and we may or may not fight that battle particularly hard.

EJ Lightsey - in that BPA category it sounds like, and may take the spot JJ was going to be in.

Not sure if there are any other HS recruits that we're actively pursuing in this class. I have to imagine the staff is leaving space for transfer portal in the spring, as there are still players on the roster today that are highly likely to end up elsewhere by the time this semester comes to a close.

Herald Perkins decommitted from TA&M. But I see zero news we've had any contact with him. But with ILB being a major need for us I wonder if we’re secretly back-dooring with this kid.

Probably ends up at LSU or UF, but would be sweet to land him as a big surprise. He says he’s re-announcing on Feb 2nd.

That all said, any news on Shemar Stewart? I don’t get WTF all the huge appeal is to TA&M this cycle. I know it’s a crazy wealthy alumni full of 1%’ers, so I assume the NIL deals are flowing. But it still seems odd they could end up with the best recruiting class of all time.

I think we finish with Miller, James, Smith, and Bell, but it would be nice to sneak in a surprise 5-star.

Highly unlikely to be in this class at this point. Assume Lightsey barring new news.

Unless we get a visit somehow, I'd assume we're not in the mix.

Pretty sure Miami leads there these days? We shot our shot but not expected to land him. aTm has the combination of finally getting a regular season Alabama win and willingness to pay out the nose for NIL deals this year (we are apparently not willing to go as heavy here, conscious choice by staff to not let this be the driver... time will tell if they have to adjust strategy). Their roster is not perceived to be as deep as UGA's... so in effect they're pitching similar to UGA in 2017-18 just without the overall on field results. Also, keep in mind they played a ton of games with a backup QB this year.

They also have a good recruiting staff... if you recall, Coley was landing quality players for us that we had no real business landing not too terribly long ago either.

The departure of Perkins and possibly not landing Stewart are probably a good indicator of how things will be long term though. You can't just bring in a ton of bodies by paying them and still keep them happy. But it's a numbers game ultimately... they need to upgrade the roster and hope that at least a few of these incoming recruits are able to displace older competition AND play at a high level. If not, very few of them will be willing to sit for longer than a year.

So we’re only bringing in 1 RB this class while losing 2? And will likely lose 2, possibly 3 after next season?

I’m not so sure about that. Has Jordan James given any hints that he’s decommitting?

We will be bringing in 2 elite backs next year in all likelihood... Haynes + Owens/Young(?)

We have reportedly ceased comms with him since pre-AA game. I'm not an insider here, just relaying info that I'd generally tend to believe.

FWIW, looks like Dell is visiting this kid and we're pushing to try and get an OV.

LINK

No clue if he's even all that interested in us, but pretty good looking film... looks like a late bloomer candidate and superior to James' IMHO - For Reference: LINK). Much better wiggle, and vision at the LOS to utilize blocks. I said as much about James several months back, that I thought he didn't look like a UGA caliber back, but was reserving judgement as ultimately I trust the coaches. Looks like they may have come to the same conclusion though.

I'm also willing to admit that I'm wrong on this front sometimes, as I did not believe that Tank was a particularly great back either... time will tell, but he had a hell of a freshman campaign for sure.

Christen Miller got a CB to us. Great DLIneman
247

EJ Lightsey getting CBs to us. Many think him to be an underrated LB.
247

Jordan James...prospect for RB talked about above has CBs rolling in for Oregon.

If he doesn't come here, Oregon would be a great landing sport for him.

Could open the spot up for Paul. Link to page and highlights above in Fibonacci's post.

Mykel Williams got bumped to #4 overall on the Composite. Out with Walker, insert Williams

personal opinion is Williams could step in and get some playing time early. Maybe not a full time starter but in specialized situations.

Some felt coming out of covid that he had not looked the part. Possibly due to not working out as much or as hard maybe due to covid restrictions.

He worked hard and made huge strides this past year and showed out at a couple of camps, and is now looking like "the man". If we can lock up Christen Miller to go along with Williams it could be absolutely huge.

Isn’t he kind of a tweener when it comes his weight? A little light for DE/Travon Walker role and a little big for OLB Edge rusher?

Notes from All American practices had him at 6’5” and 260. He should be 275 or better after getting in some work in the weight room and nutrition program.

Let me preface this by saying I'm super impressed with the growth he made between summer and now... he's playing extremely well... With that said, I think there are many who are overreacting to how well he played at the AA practices/game. I do think this year's OL class is down relative to the norm and it allowed him to do things on the field there that he will have zero chance to do regularly in college. I think he could find some playing time by the end of the season, but I'm betting it's unlikely to see early. Would love to be wrong, just think to find time as a freshman on our defensive front is going to be tough sledding.

I don't think you are wrong here, but even in a "down" year for Oline, it is going to be the best most Dlinemen will face during high school. It is still an all star cast of the best in the nation. Probably (maybe) not as good as previous years, but still very good.

I agree. not a ton early as he needs to put on weight etc. but gaining some experience. Put him in there from time to time with Jalen Carter and Bear Alexander, Stackhouse and Walthour and Brinson will be an effective roation, I think.

Not nearly as good as last year, but effective nonetheless.

Obviously we have to wait and see to be certain, but we should still have a bit of experience out there. It'll be interesting to see at the halfway point of the season.

The first half of the season is soft, and gets a bit tougher, so it gives us time to get some experience then ratchet up the competition at the halfway point to get them where they need by the SECCG and beyond. (I don't expect us to hang with Alabama in 2022, but if our offense jells.....who knows?

Bet on Dell. Sounds like he'll be joining the good guys as last I've seen an update.
