Alabama Women’s Track and Field Makes the Podium at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Finishing Fourth

For the first time in more than 30 years, Alabama made it onto the podium.

The Crimson Tide women closed strong on the final day of the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to finish in fourth place with 31 points, marking its first podium appearance since 1987. It was also Alabama's third-highest outdoor finish in program history after finishing second in back-to-back year in 1986 and 1987.

Tamara Clark led the way with a pair of top-three finishes on Saturday. She was second in the 200 meters with a 22.17, finishing just five hundredths of a second out of first. She finished third in the 100 meters earlier in the day with a 10.88. Clark along with Daija Lampkin, D'Jai Baker and Christal Mosley started the day by taking sixth in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 43.99.

Mercy Chelangat, who took second in the 10,000 meters on Thursday to get the Tide on the scoreboard, scored again on Saturday, taking fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:33.20. Amaris Tyynismaa tallied Alabama's first individual points of the day, taking seventh in the 1,500 meters after running a 4:11.56.

Crimson Tide Top 5: Men’s Swimming

For every entry into our Crimson Tide Top 5 series, the focus has been solely on what each player accomplished while at the University of Alabama.

That's what makes determining the greatest five male Crimson Tide swimmers a challenge because you can't factor in world competitions or the Olympics for the most part.

As a whole, Alabama's program has produced nearly 100 Olympians since the 1972 Games in Moscow….

Alabama Track and Field Has 12 Current and Former Student-Athletes Slated to Compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials

The Alabama track and field program has a dozen current and former student-athletes set to converge on Eugene, Ore., over the next 10 days to take part in the United States Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field.

The venue will be familiar to most of the Crimson Tide's group after serving as a frequent home to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including just a week ago, when Alabama's women finished fourth and the men 13th in the team standings.

Those competing at this year's trials include 2021 NCAA champion Robert Dunning (110-meter hurdles) and 2021 NCAA Championships 100 and 200 meters medalist Tamara Clark.
