Alabama Track and Field Qualifies Seven More Men to the NCAA Championship Finals on Friday

After qualifying six on Wednesday, the Crimson Tide added seven more on Friday, breaking two school records in the process

The Alabama men's track team has advanced 13 men to next month's NCAA Championship Finals in Eugene, Ore., after a strong day at the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday.

The Crimson Tide qualified six to the finals on Wednesday before adding seven more on Friday, including Champion Allison (400 meters), Robert Dunning (110-meter hurdles), Christian Edwards (triple jump), Vincent Kiprop (5,000 meters), Eliud Kipsang (1,500 meters) and Keshun McGee (triple jump). Kiprop, who qualified for the 10,000 meters on Wednesday, became the first UA student-athlete to double up heading into Eugene.

In the last event of the day, Gabe Serrano, Dunning, Allison and Joshua St. Clair combined to finish third in their heat with a time of 3:07.88 despite the stadium lights going out during the race, forcing the field to finish in darkness. The third-place finish earned the Tide an automatic berth to the championship finals.

With the men's portion of the meet in the books, the Crimson Tide women close competition on Saturday.

I Eights Advance to Petite Final, II Eights and Fours Progress to C Final at 2021 NCAA Rowing Championship

The Alabama rowing team saw continued improvement on its race times at the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championship Saturday in Sarasota, Fla., as the I Eights rowed a semifinal time good enough to qualify for Sunday's petite final, while both the II Eights and the Fours progressed to the C final. The regatta's final races will take place Sunday with the Crimson Tide's first event slated for 7:24 a.m. CT.

Competing in the Tide's solo A-B semifinals of the day, the I Eights crew crossed the finish line of heat one with a fifth-place finish of 6:28.449, earning a lane to compete in the petite final Sunday at 9:36 a.m. CT.

The II Eights and the Fours each competed in the C-D semifinals of their respective events this morning and both boats earned their fastest times of the regatta thus far. In heat one of the C-D semifinals, the 2V8+ rallied for a second-place in 6:37.843. Also in heat one of the C-D semifinals, the V4+ finished second in 7:20.709. The Fours and the II Eights progressed to the C final in their respective events, scheduled to start Sunday at 7:24 a.m. CT and 7:48 a.m. CT, respectively.

I’m not Track and Field savvy, but it sounds like Bama is tearing it up.

Alabama Track and Field Qualifies 11 Women to the NCAA Championship Finals

Led by a historic performance from Tamara Clark, the Alabama women's track and field team has advanced 11 women to next month's NCAA Championship Finals following the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., which came to a close on Saturday.

After qualifying for the NCAA finals as part of Alabama's 4x100-meter relay and in the 100 meters (10.98) earlier in the night, Clark proceeded to run the fourth-fastest 200 meters in collegiate history, posting a 22.13 in a dominant performance.

In a race where progress is so often measured by hundredths of a second, Clark lopped nearly a half second off her pervious best of 22.50 set earlier this season and buried the Alabama record by a quarter of a second. On the way to the new school record, Clark flew past Olympic Champions Pauline Davis (22.49) and Lillie Leatherwood (22.38).

Clark closed the night and the meet by helping the Crimson Tide earn a place at nationals in the 4x400-meter relay.

Amaris Tyynismaa also broke a school and Hodges Stadium record on Saturday, running a 4:09.48 to take top honors in the 1,500 meters and move on to the national finals.

After qualifying three to the NCAA Championship Finals earlier in the week, the Crimson Tide added eight more on Friday, including Clark (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay), Tyynismaa (1,500m), Natassha McDonald (400m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay), Esther Gitahi (5,000m), Leah Hanle (3,000m steeplechase), Daija Lampkin (4x100m relay, 4x400m relays), D'Jai Baker (4x100m relay, 4x400m relay) and Christal Mosley (4x400m relay). Mercy Chelangat added the 5,000 meters to her slate of events at the national championships after qualifying in the 10,000 meters on Thursday.

They are killing it. I think we have a shot at a top 5 finish for both teams, and definitely a good chance at a top 10. I think we’ll have several individual champions and All~Americans. If they all peak at the right time you never know.

Alabama Volleyball Adds TCU Graduate Transfer Sarah Swanson

Graduate transfer Sarah Swanson will join Alabama volleyball for the 2021 fall season. The middle blocker arrives in Tuscaloosa following a four-year career at TCU.

The middle blocker played in 83 matches over four seasons with the Horned Frogs. As a freshman, she appeared in every match, hitting .300 or better nine times. In her 2018 sophomore campaign, she recorded double-digit kills in six matches and led the team in blocks and then led the team in hitting percentage as a junior. Off the court, she was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
