After Olympic Trials, A Breakdown of the U.S. Women’s Team Bound For Tokyo

quote:

Backstroke
The Americans have medal contenders in backstroke, even with world record-holder Regan Smith missing the team in the 200 back. Smith has been as fast as 57.92 in the 100 back this year, so she is squarely in the medal mix, although challenging Australia’s Kaylee McKeown (the new world record-holder) for gold will be a challenge. Rhyan White is an outside medal chance in the 100 back but definitely in the mix in the 200 back, where her 2:05.73 winning time from Olympic Trials ranks her third in the world, and fellow qualifier Phoebe Bacon ranks fifth in the world at 2:06.46. At least two medals in women’s backstroke is a reasonable expectation

I think I’m going to be sick….

MATT KING, ALABAMA’S LEADING SCORER AT SECS, ENTERS TRANSFER PORTAL

Matt King, who recently finished his freshman season at the University of Alabama, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

King, who we ranked 19th in the high school of 2020, saw immediate success as a member of the Crimson Tide. In just one season, his 50 free went from a 19.7o to a 18.96, and his 100 free improved from 43.22 to 41.63. King was part of a historically-great class of college freshmen sprinters, alongside Cal’s Bjorn Seeliger, Florida’s Adam Chaney and Virginia’s Matt Brownstead.

King ended the NCAA season as the 3rd-fastest freshman of all time in the 100 free, and just outside the top 5 ever in the 50 free. He scored 14 points at NCAAs, based on his 5th place finish in the 100 free, and was projected to score in the 50 free before drawing a disqualification for a false start.

dammit! So what’s the deal with 7 men on the team in the portal? They not like the idea of a female head coach? Moar, you got any insight into why the Bama men’s swim team is imploding after the hiring of Coach Geer?

Didn’t realize the exodus going on in men’s swimming. From the article above:
quote:

This potentially adds to the uphill climb of new Alabama head coach Margo Geer, who takes over the program as her first paid coaching position. Since the start of the 2020-2021 academic year, 7 Alabama men have entered the NCAA transfer portal. That list includes Matt King, Colton Stogner, Andrew Shea, Lia Bell, Alec Dixon, and Nico Hernandez-Tome. Of that group, all but O’Connor and Shea are NCAA Championship qualifiers.

It's not that she's female... it's she has 0 experience and is a holdover from our AD's time in Arizona. If you want some fun reading, hit up swimming world articles in the last 18 months that have anything to do with Bama. It has been a straight shitfest of allegations of athlete abuse. I thought most was squashed with coley leaving, but that may have actually been the catalyst for where we are today.

Edit: it's swim swam articles that have the comments, not swimming world... my bad.

Edit part 2: it could always be worse... LSU hired Rick Bishop. Here's the exact exchange between my best friend and I on the matter, he swam for Bishop a couple years before heading to college
