I saw this graphic for explosive run rate and while its impressive, is this a sustainable formula for winning in college football today? Slow, methodical, but not vertical. And with rules protecting offenses nowadays.

Aggies had better score more TDs than FGs and we damn sure better not have a lot of 3 and outs.

But, a Jimbo offense is a constrictor that also acts as a battering ram. It will rob you of time due to it's TOP and it will also wear down a defense. The 4th quarter stats this year are heavily slanted A&M's way.

It's not eye catching but it is indeed effective.

Is the question about his offense in general or can he continue to have explosive runners?

With a strong OL, good blocking WRs/TEs, and fast play makers, yes you can continue to have success with explosive run rate. Will it match these #s? Probably not, but Achane will be a home run hitter for sure. King is a better runner than Mond.

His offense will change with his personnel. But in general he’s going to keep the offense balanced and not base it on running hurry up all the time.

Achane will be tough to deal with the next couple of years.

A&M had a unique situation this year I believe. Didn't really have any downfield threats, especially after Chapman went down in the UF game.

But had a great OL, good game manager at QB who could also run, a chain-moving TE, and three really good RBs (if you include Smith).

I think the offense was tailored by Jimbo to match the strengths of his players, including the fact that he knew his defense would keep him in slow, grinding games.

I do think beginning next year, you will start to see the offense open up a bit more. King seems to be a more natural thrower than Mond, and A&M gets back Chapman, along with everyone in the program believing Demond Demas is primed for a breakout in 2021.

Paired with a QB that never really took shots downfield.

Yup. Get Cupp back, Chapman back, get Demas on the field, and get a QB willing to sling it downfield, it’ll change drastically. I just hope we have the QB. That’s the major question mark.

He’s gunna be fun. Not sure he’s your typical downfield threat. He’s a running back at wide receiver. 5’11.5 206. Probably more since he weighted in at the opening in 2019.

So far at A&M Jimbo has basically run an offense like Army if they used a pro style offense.

It's slow, methodical, doesn't lend itself to blowouts, can be very ugly at times, and just a few mistakes can cause losses that shouldn't happen or games that are much closer than they should be.

However, when it everything is clicking it grinds opponents down, wears out their defense, chews up the clock keeping his own defense fresh, and lends itself to winning the 4th quarter which is why he's been good at come from behind wins.

If Jimbo gets a QB and a couple WRs who can use the vertical passing game at a better clip A&M is going to be extremely dangerous.

Buckley has one of the worst drop rates in the SEC. (Only catches about 44% of what is thrown to him)

agree I think if anyone watched A&M this year you know Mond is not the best at anything beyond the sticks. So it immediately restricts an offense that could unfold into a deep threat and make it almost impossible to scheme against. With the run game that we have now and one of the top TE in the country a QB should be begging for play action passes deep.

Difference is Jimbo has had what I'm talking about before and is trying to get those kinds of guys. He isn't resisting a modern passing game the way Les seemingly was.

A&M has also had the kind of players he needed but he wasn't here to use them.

Had Jimbo been at A&M with Manziel and Mike Evans as opposed to Sumlin he would have fricked teams up. It's just going to be a matter of getting those deep threats and a QB who can make those throws. Kyle Allen would have looked a hell of a lot better under Jimbo too.

The difference we have seen Jimbo with better QBs. He averaged like 52 a game with Winston in 13.

It’s not gonna win a nc. If he wants a chance to win one, he’s gonna have to bring in some innovation. I feel like aTm is going to feel like we did in miles’ later years. But with no nc.
