Plenty? Like who?
I've heard of kids skipping their Sr. years in HS but never skipping out on championships or playoffs because they were hurt or EE.

This is hilarious. Your age/experience from a far bygone era actually works against you and Peter in discussions like this.
I will say this last thing then I am out of this thread.
If you went to the doctor and he said, "It looks like you have cancer. I give you 6 months to live, but I would advise that you get a second opinion."
So you are telling two buddies about the doctors prognosis and both are smart, intelligent people.
One is in retail but he reads stuff on the internet. he says, "Don't worry about it. You look fine to me!"
The other buddy was a retired doctor and he says, "After checking you over, I can see some signs that you should be concerned about. I would definitely go have some tests done and begin therapy as quickly as possible."
Who do you listen to? The friend who reads on the internet, or the retired doctor?
Djs, you don't have to answer, because you would listen the internet surfer.
Again, and finally. My last post. You guys can listen to an internet poster, or people who have real life experience.

If you continue to read the interaction between Peter and I from last night, you will see that there isn’t a very good argument against the evidence that supports my claims, which is exactly why you went with the bad analogy route.

Do you actually of yourself as some type of "Doctor of football?"
Good Lord dude, get over yourself and why in the world do your double bar, 1960's HS experience in the same category as a D1 AA who got a shot in the NFL?

Until you can run off a list of playoff players who have opted out I have to believe you're arguing for the sake of arguing.

What specifically do you think we are arguing here?

Either Doing something, or not, to help mitigate opt outs.

The thread was about the “new opt out Bowl”. The blame was that the players not playing for the Championship were no longer inspired to play the games due to them not being in the Championship Game(s).. Teams have been playing for the Championship since 1998. The opt out play started in 2016. If the real reason for opt outs was that players didn’t want to play in a Bowl game that didn’t have Championship ramifications, then, we would have seen the Opt outs well before 2016. Before 2016, it was taboo for agents to sign players before the season ended. The 2 guys in 2016 broke that taboo. That opened up the flood gates. As of now, it appears taboo to sign a guy if he is in a Playoff game. It used to be taboo to sign a guy during the season...

Nope. The “playoff” is a new thing. Before the playoff, there was no playoff, so Players didn’t care about the playoffs. That word is very meaningful. It has changed the whole game. It’s what football players have always aspired to, from youth to the NFL.
If what you say is true and agents are acting differently, though your 1985 experience wouldn’t provide you with such knowledge, we can trace it back to the importance of the word “playoff”. It matters. Players want to be in playoffs. Agents are now playing on that, and it only works if players are NOT in the playoff. You know this, right? Agents aren’t NOT going after playoff players. The difference is Playoff players aren’t giving up the championship opportunity. Rings matter, more so in a playoff.

Playoff is 4 teams and started in 2014. BCS was 2 teams and started in 1998. Are you trying to tell us that adding 2 more teams caused all the other bowls to no longer matter?

Yes. The implementation of the playoff did change the post season. The fact that big time CFB lasted like it did so long without the all important playoffs is shocking to me, but the players finally caught onto the charade that was the bowl system. The BCS was the first step in that process.

That's quite revisionist of you. I'm impressed.

The BCS started in 1998 and nothing changed for 23 years.

It’s been a long progression to get where we now are. The bcs was the first step towards a playoff. Now that the playoff is here, players opt out of non playoff games.

The part about the charade?

Kyle Trask should have opted out! 3 picks in the 1st. Dude has probably already lost 5 million dollars tonight.

So no other ideas on how to fix this? Maybe pay the players $1000 to play in the bowls?
Posted on 12/31/20 at 3:30 pm to djsdawg
We got $600 or so in the 80s in addition to stuff like watches, jackets, jerseys, etc

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I'm excited to see a preview of the 2021 team.
