Sort of.

He did tend to run into other pressure while escaping initial pressure. That's what led to the 3rd pick - he got away from the initial but saw another defender about to sack him and made a hasty throw without seeing the full field.

I'd say he's quicker, but less overall awareness of where to go when he gets his initial escape.

Georgia's Opposing Scoring Drive % was 15.79% before playing Alabama; they had given up 6 scoring drives over their first 3 games.

Alabama had 7 scoring drives when they played.

It sounds like you’re basing that only on one game. He’s done a great job of avoiding pressures in the previous three games.

Thanks for putting that together, interesting to look at. I dont give too much thought to it this early on, once everyone plays more games we should get a better idea of how bad the defense is this year.

Alabama had faced two teams in the upper half, one in the top 4, prior to playing Georgia. The best team at generating pressure that Stetson had seen prior to Alabama was #10 Tennessee.

Also, like I said, Stetson was better at getting away from a sack, but not better at knowing what to do afterwards. Sort of why he's thrown more picks than Jones, and way fewer TDs. Jones' is way more accurate when pressured; those two extra sacks are a pittance compared to be significantly better when pressured. Jones is less inclined to run and rather stand in the pocket and make the throw (a good example is when Waddle burned Georgia for a 90 yard TD - UGA had an unblocked rusher coming off the end). Stetson is likely to scramble and make a bad one, but avoid a couple of potential sacks.

Mac Jones - Pressure Rate 18.26 % / Success Rate 65.22 %
Stetson Bennett - Pressure Rate 16.13 % / Success Rate 43.55%

I.E. If you pressure Bennett, he may scramble away but more often than not the play goes in the defense's favor. If you pressure Jones, 2/3 of the time the play still goes poorly for the defense.

The first stat is surprising. The second isn’t. It would be interesting to see an implied or weighted success rate geared more heavily towards 3rd and 4th down stops. Ultimately, defensive success means getting stops.
