That is one, if not the, biggest issue with the team right now.

Kendall Briles deserves a lot of credit... his play calling, especially on 3rd down, was great and had us off balance most of the game.

Defense has been horrible on 3rd down this year.
From what I can tell is it has a lot to do with our MLBs being pretty bad in coverage. When they aren't getting beat, then the other teams have just had perfect plays dialed up. Going right over a blitz or using formation to leave the middle of the field wide open. KB called some wonderful plays last night at just the right times. A couple screens and that shovel pass.

In my opinion... We have some long defenders in the secondary. We are lacking in pass rush. I know we are man to man team but we could throw a few zone looks in and not always blitz.

Yeah, the pass rush just isn't there. Looked a little better at times last night.
It's a product of the weak pass rush. When a MLB is your best pass rusher, (as the commentary pointed out that Steele said Pappoe is the best pass rusher) and you have to blitz Smoke or Sherwood, that's a huge problem.
Like I said earlier, I've seen wide open middle of the field multiple times in all 3 games on 3rd down. And the opponents have exploited it too.
