How do you feel about the Pac-12 "strike?"

Got off the phone w/ Washington State WR Kassidy Wodds’ dad John. He said Coach Rolovich cut Kassidy yesterday for being a part of the Pac-12 players movement. Pat Chun called Kassidy this morning and confirmed. John said Dallas Hobbs, Lamonte McDougle and Patrick Nunn also cut.
McDougle had previously tweeted:
quote:
“I agree with everything this movement is fighting especially the health concerns but not playing this season isn’t an option for me I got ppl that need to eat,” McDougle wrote. “So if the NCAA wants to use me as a lab rat it is what it is.”
Then you had sites like The Spun commenting:
quote:
Ultimately McDougle, a freshman All-American transfer from West Virginia, will have to decide whether to be a part of a greater movement to get move rights and privileges for student-athletes, or continue perpetuating the system.
It’s hard to be between a rock and a hard place at such a young age.
The vast majority of Americans have been risking being exposed to Covid-19 at their jobs to make ends meet yet these kids want to whine about having to play to keep their scholarships and other benefits.
Seems like they're being victimized by "real life."

If he really wanted to make money he would've came to the SEC

Doesn't sound like he has much of a choice anymore if he got "released from the team". Probably able to transfer and play immediately. Clearly he's motivated to play this year.

It's funny that McDougle only spins the health concern when it had more to do with money and he knows it. I bet you he spends plenty of time in large groups partying or hanging out without a worry in the world getting the virus.

According to his Twitter, both of his parents have had and beaten Covid-19.

I say give them the 50% split.
Then, charge them for tuition, rent, books, clothes, food, etc. Treat them like a regular student not on scholarship. No free anything.
Then, let the state and fed tax their new found income.

You "get paid" with a free college diploma dumbass.

Yep pay the full load out of pocket and actually meet entrance academic requirements as well as NCAA eligibility requirements each semester.

Do away with athletic scholarships all together. Problem solved.

I'm not! Sorry it sounded that way. I was talking about what he retweeted

If he was good enough to play at Alabama, he wouldn’t be complaining because he would be driving a Charger.

Do realize if that’s the case. Sallie Mae will kick out those loans and most likely majority of those athletes will kick that debt in a blink of an eye! Either way anyone tries to slice it, the athlete still has the upper hand.

He’s an idiot
He doesn’t gather statistics of what an education may be worth to a student athlete beyond college, and the connections that also may be available that leads to prosperous opportunities. I thought the NCAA passed a rule he could make money off of his name. If he is worth 250K a year, he can prove it.

It’s amazing what payroll deductions can do in a situation like this.

I feel that it should be discussed on a different board than this one.

F the Pac12 and the entire left coast. Their Championship game has less fans than Hoover vs Thompson

Annual college costs players avoid -
Out of state tuition for 2 semesters - $35,000
Annual Rent - $10,000
Annual Utilities - $2000
Books - $2000
Tutoring - $2000
Meal Card - $3000
Stipend - $10,000 (benefit)
Avoided student loan interest while in school - $6000
That’s $70,000 so far, I’m sure I’m missing some items. I believe that is about the average salary in the CFL. Just skip the college education and go play in the snow for a year or to and give up your college eligibility.

I think if the PAC12 was actually relevant, then it might mean something, but let's be real.
Imagine the effect on college football (or society in general) if the WAC went on strike...
