Both State and Ole Miss athletic directors will also travel to the MS Capitol to lobby lawmakers - still short of votes in the Senate - to change the flag.

Several Southern Miss coaches will also be at the Mississippi Capitol, including basketball coach Jay Ladner. Sadly, football coach Jay Hopson’s father passed a few days ago and will not make it.

SI - Lane Kiffin, Other Ole Miss Coaches to Lobby MS Legislature to Change State Flag
quote:
As first reported by Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellinger, both Kiffin and Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach are part of a group scheduled to lobby in front of State Legislature on Thursday, pushing for the State of Mississippi to make a change in the flag.
Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter and Mississippi State athletic director John Cohen are also reportedly part of the lobbying party.
In addition to Kiffin and Carter, a large contingent of Ole Miss coaches, including Mike Bianco, Yolett McPhee-McCuin, Kermit Davis and Connie Price-Smith will all be in attendance tomorrow in Jackson.

Gotta be a little strange for 2 guys with zero ties to Mississippi who have coached a combined 0 games in the state to be sent to the capitol to lobby folks who have been in Mississippi their entire lives to change their flag.

These are the kind of people who are usually the most offended by the flag.

Even the many black Mississippi residents who have supported it?

Leaving their legacy on the great state of Mississippi!!! Then leaving in five years or less, never to be seen there again. But let’s send in the sportsing coaches to do our political bidding!

84% polled want to change it.
There are always going to be contrarians but that’s a pretty solid indication you’re not talking about a lot of people.

Yea - it has to be a little awkward, but those 2 aren't the kind to ever feel awkward in any situation, so maybe it all worked out for the best

Leach will probably give a 75-minute speech on how the real sin of Mississippi was driving out the Yazoo and Choctaw and how some pirate ship once ran aground on Cat Island and it had a real neat flag that the state should think about adopting.

Yet they support changing it back to a flag that was actually Mississippi's flag during the Civil War.

Then it shouldn’t be a problem to put it on a ballot and let the people vote should it?

Must suck when you have to appease 18 year old kids to keep your job.
